I really wanted her to write one for Ursula, so I'm happy to see it's going to happen! I really hope it's good!

I wonder if she's going to incorporate Morgana or if she's also going to incorporate elements from the filmmaker's original concept (Ursula being Triton's sister) like the musicals did?

I like the idea of this book.

But as far as the original concept of Ursula being Triton's sister... am I the first to point out they are of different species?

Merpeople is it's own made up species. It could have octopus-like halves included in it. And Ariel and her family all have different colored tails, so if they can all have different colors that aren't the same, difference in halves makes sense too.

If they have to make her a victim, I'd rather see her as the target of sexism/racism (either as Triton's sister/fellow ruler, whatever, or as a regular citizen/eventual member of his court) before she turns to witchcraft for power and it slowly drives her insane/evil. That would be an interesting story to me, because sometimes victims of discrimination can become extremely embittered towards those who are more privileged than they are. That would be an interesting way to look at her enjoyment of the suffering she inflicted upon the "privileged mermaids" in her garden.

I'd much rather see that than another love-related backstory.

Crap. This better not be taking the Maleficent route. :(

Hey Disney Duster,

No, it doesn't!

A (human) couple can have kids with different hair colors (same as tails), but a human couple won't procreate a different species (or race!).
I'm sorry... Ursula and Triton being siblings makes no sense to me. If your theory were true, how come none of Ariel's sisters have tentacles?? Not only that... when they all attend the concert at the beginning of the movie, there are no "merpeople" with tentacles! C'mon....

What I meant was with your logic those different tail colors couldn't come from Triton or Ariel's mom because they have 6 different colors, not just 2. Maybe I'm wrong in that because maybe 6 different colored merpeople got in their family? But anyway, despite what you say, I can still believe in this fantasy world that a half-fish-half-human and a half-octopus-half-human could be siblings. And no one says in the film that the merpeople and Ursula are different species, you are just assuming that because they look like different species. In the real world, fish and octopuses are different species but in the film merpeople is a made up species that may have members that just look like octopuses but they still count as merpeople.

Im pretty sure the official definition of the term "species" would be on my side on this one...

THis may be fantasy, but within a world of fantasy, there are still rules that follow a certain logic...

Ursula and Triton's species difference can easily be explained by a magic spell gone wrong. However, that's only if you don't count TLM2 as canon and only go by the broadway canon.

I agree, but I think there can be logic that if you can have many different colored tails, you can have tenctacles, too. Another weird thing is it looks like some females have bras while others, the fat ones, have their tails go all the way up to cover their breasts. I can just believe the logic of genes for different colored tails and tails that cover your breasts can be in there with genes for tentacles.

Uhhh...a magic spell gone wrong is an idea you can have, but I don't think it's a good one, sorry. It's like, why that idea? It's not a satisfying explanation.

I was thinking that as well, this book should be interesting to read. I have been enjoying Fairest of All and have been meaning to get the Beast book, so this one should be good.

I better idea would be that in Ursula embracing black magic, it turned her half octopus. But I still think in the original movie she is really a merperson born half octopus.

I think it would make more sense (if Ursula is related to Triton in this) if she had been cursed to look the way she does when she was banished.

What's confusing about Ursula's black covering is I've heard people call it a dress before. I know in TLM2 (not exactly an authority for the series, but just pointing it out), Morgana's black covering juts out over her chest, implying it's a dress.

Yea and in one official Disney games book where you find the differences in pictures one difference was in one picture they said "there are straps on her dress" and in the other picture there weren't.

You don't have a bad idea there Divinity.
