The author of Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen is coming out with a book about Beast from Beauty and The Beast.

Seriously? Why not about Gaston?
Gaston is much more interesting and they could really do wonders with the character.
This guy is as usual, by shafted by the company even though he has his own section at the parks.

I remember reading 'Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen' a few years ago and it was a better version of what we saw in 'Maleficent'!

I haven't read the book myself, but I read in some reviews that appearantly Gaston's backstory is also explored in this book. It's revealed that Gaston was the Beast's childhood best friend. For some reason Gaston determines that the Beast’s fiancée Circe is a pig farmer’s daughter, after which the Beast angrily and cruelly discards her—and that leads to the curse. Circe is actually the younger sister of three sorceresses and, with their goading, sets a curse upon him so all will see him as the beast he is because of what he did to her. Gaston appearantly didn't know his best friend was turned into a beast and thought he moved to another country (?).

I actually really like these wicked-esque novels, so I hope she writes more of them. Fairest of All was a fun read which you shouldn't take too seriously. I would actually really love one from the POV of Ursula, because she doesn't really have a backstory in the movie. I know the musical gave her this backstory where she was Triton's sister and (in the Dutch version) killed their father, older sisters and Ariel's mom, but I would kind of like to read a backstory that fits better with the animated movie.

I'm currently reading Fairest of All and liking it, so I may check this one out. Though, I am enjoying Fairest of All and I do get why, the author decided to only refer to the Queen as Queen, I do hope that she doesn't just refer to The Beast as Beast or Prince in this book and actually gives him a name.

When has Gaston ever been more interesting than the Beast?

That's much like the original fairy tale the Disney movie is based on. A fairy tries to court the prince but he doesn't love her in return so she places the curse on him to learn what true love really is, and for Belle to learn it, too.

I believe she just calls him 'Prince' in this book. That's actually one of the things I didn't like about Fairest of All. The books constantly refers to her as 'the Queen', even in parts of the book where she isn't one yet. I think it would have worked better if the author had given her a name, or just called her Grimhilde.

At least with The Beast Within 'the Prince' is a prince throughout the whole book, so it makes a little more sense.

Maybe disney didn't allow her to give the characters names? I wouldn't know why, but it's possible.

I've always wondered if the one about the Queen was worth picking up? Would you guys recommend it?

Also, just randomly, I've always heard Grimhilde attached as the Queens name, but was that cited officially? Or is it officially unofficial like Adam is to Beast?

That does make sense for this book but in Fairest of All, that really bugged me too.

In comic books that were published at the time Snow White was released she is referred to as Queen Grimhilde. But she is never referred to as that in the film. The company doesn't recognize the name now and she is simply known as the Evil Queen. So I guess it is officially unofficial haha.

I really enjoyed the Queen's backstory. It was actually quite creepy at parts and quite tragic and twisted. Really excited for this book about the Beast. And I would love to see an Ursula book in the future

There are more areas to explore with gaston than Beast, especially since he's a villain. But at least to me, he's more interesting than Beast.

Fairest of All was quite good. I think I wrote about it on a thread here at some point. It kind of did the same thing as Maleficent in that it added a little TOO much to the story rather than relying mostly on what it already had to work with, but it was still quite good.

The book also seemed to be partly inspired by Macbeth, and at least we find out that the Queen really did intend to poison Snow White, after becoming obsessed with her own vanity.

I'm glad you guys brought up the Evil Queen's book, I find her to be one of the most interesting/mysterious characters in all the Disney movies.

Also I agree with Old Fish Tale, the Maleficent plot for me was deeply disappointing, despite the amazing visuals and acting, and this book that I'm reading now kind of makes up for it.
