I was wondering if they ever did.
I remembered a few Disney toons on Disney channel being colorized in the 80s and i think Disney was trying to be like Ted Turner when Ted bought some of RKO and MGM's library.

On the Gold Classic Collection DVD of "Robin Hood", "Ye Olden Days" is colorized.

Oh yes i've seen both versions of that.
Were Disney trying to capitalize on Ted Turner back then?

Classic Walt Disney cartoons on Toon Disney and Disney Channel. Oh, those were the days. Certainly more watchable than those new Mickey shorts.

As far as I know, Disney largely avoided the overseas tracing process that other studios did. Which is good, because not only in the tracing process are they not the original drawings from the animators, but the coloring is absolutely HORRENDOUS!
The digital coloring is much easier on the eyes.
