I'm sorry, but anyone who, for even one second, thinks or thought that this might be legit…deserves all the disappointment that life has in store for them. This doesn't even qualify as a rumor. I really can't believe the gullibility of people on the internet sometimes.

If Joe Wright is still making the movie,
I'm 90% sure that Saoirse Ronan would be playing Ariel.
Keira Knightly will somehow be involved too.

But I just looked at IMDB, and it's not on his list... so...

After what I've seen from Maleficent, I really want them to just leave this one alone.

He'll still make it, but there won't be an "Ariel" in that film. I believe he's waiting until he finds a way to shoot it. Perhaps the mermaids scenes in 'Pan' will help him do that. And yes, he said in an interview Saiorse would be playing the main character.

Correct. Wright's The Little Mermaid won't be from Disney, and even if they do end up distributing it, Wright will steer FAR AWAY from the animated feature and go for the tragic tone of the Hans Christian Andersen story. I could see James McAvoy and Keira Knightly (she has to be in this somewhere) as the Prince and Princess to Saiorse's little mermaid. I also think Vanessa Redgrave would make a great grandmother mermaid.

Basically, just make it an Atonement reunion

I'm pretty sure Focus Features will distribute that film. It has nothing to do with Walt Disney Pictures. And can you imagine the nightmare it will be to shoot that thing?

... Gee, I was about to make a comment about the whole second thoughts about HermioneXRon...

I was hoping they could do something like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire... film the scenes underwater... underwater!

But they spent months only doing that and it's not a big part of the movie, and it would be very costly, too.

So, I was wrong. Sofia Coppola is directing it. I was so sad to hear it. She's a good director, but Joe held this project very dear.
