Just watched Emperor's New Groove and in the scene at the diner, right after Pacha says "We're on our Honeymoon" the waitress replies "Bless you for coming out in Public"

A potential gay joke in a Disney movie made 13 years ago.

This one from Lion King:

Timon: "Jeez! Why do I always have to save your--AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!"

I remember my dad laughing at that joke, but I didn't know why. Now I do.

I don't understand how that was a gay joke. Wasn't Kuzco clearly dressed in drag? :?

I always assumed it was simply a comment on "her" ugliness, as in women that ugly are brave for venturing out in public.

I have a few:

Hercules:
When Hercules first meets Meg, she's being held by the blue centaur guy. Herc steps in, starts saying "Pardon me, my good...". Then he pauses, tilts his head lower, and after a second says "sir."

In Hunchback during a fight between Esmeralda and Phoebus, we have this exchange:
Esmeralda- "You sneaky son of a-!"
Phoebus- "Watch it, we're in a church."

Mulan:
When Mushu introduces himself to Mulan, one of the qualities he mentions is "pleasurable."

Nah, coming out in that context can only refer to homosexuality.

Part of the joke was that the waitress easily saw through his drag outfit.

Yeah I was thinking that too but long after I posted this. Just a couple hours ago actually.

Besides, I don't know how a gay stereotype would've been handled a decade ago. It could have double meaning without neglecting literal meaning.

I've always interpreted it as them taking time away from sex to grab a bite to eat.

I know I got more than my fair share of comments/innuendo implying that's all my wife and i would be doing on our honeymoon.

Who knows?

I really don't think this is a gay joke, I think you're reading too much into it.

My favorite joke is one from Hercules . It's when Herc helps Pain and Panic, disguised as the two children, escape from the fallen rock. One of them says "Somebody call IX-I-I!" Pure genius

Several of the jokes in Hercules come to mind (mostly after you learn about the meaning behind them--like the mention of Oedipus in the scene before “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love),” etc.). The same with Genie in Aladdin. Also, the comedy in the squirrel scene in TSitS and the twitterpated scenes in Bambi were always very strange to me as a child. Oh, there was one in Cinderella, just after the pumpkin and dress disappear after the ball, where Jaq and Gus are hugging as Cinderella talks about romance/the Prince, and then Jaq realizes and gives Gus the side-eye which I never really caught as a child. Then, of course, Cogworth’s conversation with the Beast at the beginning of “Something There” about what to give to a woman to show they mean something to you-- “Flowers, chocolates, promises you never intend to keep--.”

I also think Ursula’s humor improves with age, although she doesn’t exactly tell jokes. Mostly I see so much condescension in the character when she’s speaking (dialogue or singing) to Ariel now, where I didn’t really notice the subtleties when I was a child.

I’m sure there are others (there tend to be a lot of clever things in Disney movies), but for some reason they aren’t jumping to mind. There’s probably some lines by Merlin and Merriweather. I’ll try to remember this thread next time I spot them.

Most of the Genie's impressions in Aladdin, some of them aren't as familiar to a British audience as they are to an American one and I was too young when the film came out to know who most of them were. The one I did know was Jack Nicholson from Batman and I still find that hilarious today.

I was watching Sleeping Beauty the other day and I found it hilarious how every time they showed Fauna there were more and more dirty dishes piling up around her as she made a cake for Aurora's birthday. Something I never noticed before.

I know it's been said before, but yeah, that isn't a gay joke. This one, on the other hand, is:

Genie: Oh, Al. I'm gettin' kinda fond of you, kid. Not that I wanna pick out curtains or anything.

:)
