Just Despicable Me 2 for me personally. I had my doubts at first, but the reviews have been positive so far and I liked the last trailer.

I'll probably end up seeing Despicable Me 2, Turbo, The Smurfs 2 and Blue Jasmine.

Can't wait for Despicable Me 2, the trailers I have seen makes it look like a great sequel. Not quite sure about Grown Ups 2, but if someone asks me to go to the show and they are paying I will go, otherwise I may wait til it gets to the $2 second-run house.

Pacific Rim looks very encouraging in the science-fiction realm, and I will probably see it.

As sequels go, I am a sucker for movies like Red 2. With the surviving cast from the first movie, which I loved very much, I think this one has a chance to do as well, if not better.

Wolverine and Turbo are two of my must see flicks for July, and I will make it point not to miss either of those.

Now I will rant about how everyone should avoid The Lone Ranger for many reasons that I have already stated elsewhere. First, they have given this film a PG-13 rating, and that is the "kiss of death" in my book. The legend of the Lone Ranger tells all of us that the Lone Ranger never used foul language, never believed in untold violence, never killed a man, and never got involved with women. The Lone Ranger's motto was: "I only shoot to wound, I am not the judge or executioner, I will leave that for the court's to decide." Clayton Moore, the original Lone Ranger on television, never took his mask off, except when he was in disguise as 'the old prospector'. Jay Silverheels was a real-life Comanche Indian and portrayed Tonto as the Lone Ranger's "trusted scout", by calling him "kem-o-sabe".

Hollywood has tried and failed in rebooting this classic television series. Warner Bros. brought out a film called "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" which failed miserably at the box office and in other ways too many to mention.

I will not waste my time or money seeing this film. Johnny Depp IS NOT Tonto. Tonto never wore war-paint nor wore a dead bird on his head. Everyone tells me 'get over it' when I mention this but those are 'young people' who never watched or listened to "The Lone Ranger", either on the radio or on television. On a recent television appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Depp said that he had done some research of his 'life tree', and that somewhere way back he was a part of some indian tribe. To help squash the uprising that casting a white man to play to an indian, Disney held a special premiere of the movie in Hollywood, and all of the proceeds from the $1,000 tickets went to the American Indian Education Fund. Pretty good move, in my eyes, and one that at least will help quell any rebellion over the casting of Tonto.

I went to Walmart the other night and picked up the four-disc, 28-episode, collection of "The Lone Ranger" starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. There is a sticker on the front of the disc that says "Coming Soon, a new retelling of the Legend".

I like what you have to say about The Lone Ranger, Bill, and while I have never seen any incarnation of the series, I have to agree. One of my friends, whom I typically trust with his movie reviews, absolutely despised it.

I'm somewhat excited about R.I.P.D. and The Conjuring (strangely). The ones I'll probably see at some point: Turbo, The Lone Ranger, Blue Jasmine, and Despicable Me 2 (although I still haven‘t seen all of the first film).

You need to see the first film in order for the second one to make sense. Perhaps you could rent it? I plan on seeing it tomorrow

Agreed. While I had originally planned on seeing it, reading the reviews and Bills post makes me want to avoid the movie now.

I rather enjoyed myself at Lone Ranger as did my father in his 60's. The ranger himself never does anything that Bill suggests he should not in the film although the mask is not worn for the entire feature because it's his origin story anyway. While there were a couple of things I could have done without personally be it off screen violence that still seems like too much or a single out of place joke, I found it to be a LOT of fun and have been shocked at the reaction from the public. The action was rousing, the acting was great, most of the jokes land, and we even still get a 'Hi Ho Sliver!' and the William Tell Overture. I think that really they really brought back the Ranger well with this picture, just know that in terms of tonal shifts of the serious to humorous and action it is very much on par with Pirates pictures before it. If you like them AND westerns this may be the picture for you... But well, it's just, like, my opinion, man.

I'm plaining on seeing THE LONE RANGER next week and truth be told, it's the only film in July I care about at all. I might had added THE WOLVERINE to that list, but frankly I'm kind of burnt on Fox Marvel movies. The day the X-Men film rights go back to Marvel is the day I might care again.

Anyway, that said about THE LONE RANGER, I can agree about reasons not to see it or respect disappointed feelings about it. I've seen the 1950's show and recently watched the 1981 film and loved them both. I think both The Lone Ranger and Superman were heroes of a very different era that are having a hard time staying relevant in an increasingly darker world. Many people today, especially younger people (i.e. 20's and teens) view characters like this as "campy" (which these days is a bad thing apparently) and "boring" and "old fashioned" (which is also a bad thing apparently). As a result, the various studios that feel the need to give us a "darker, grittier" Superman in MAN OF STEEL and up the violence in THE LONE RANGER. Based on how well the first of those two at least is doing at the box office, it seems this approach is here to stay. It's sad, I liked them exactly the way they were originally, but it is what it is.

Worse still is all the PG-13 films the Mouse House is putting out there. I find myself conflicted on films like PIRATES or PRINCE OF PERSIA or LONE RANGER. On one hand, I enjoy those kinds of films and am a big fan of the PIRATES films especially. On the other hand, the fact that the Disney name is slapped on all of them doesn't sit well with me. I just can't see Walt being ok with the level of violence his name is being associated with. Sadly, he's long dead and has no say anymore.

I'm surprised that not everyone cared for Pacific Rim. It looks amazing, even for a Del Toro film.
