Atlantis vs. Treasure Planet

As we all know, both films are two rare ocassions of sci-fi films. Both of them are non-musicals, have a male lead and are about a discovery of a new world. Both of them have several action sequences and have great score by James Newton Howard. And both of them were unfortunately Box Office bombs. Which do you prefer and why?

While I really like them both, I still have to go with "Treasure Planet". Mostly because it has a better executed, well-written story and the animation is much better. Not to mention that it's more genuinly emotional. "Atlantis" has better characters, but a more traditonal story. While the characters are weaker in "Treasure Planet" (with the exception of Captain Amelia), I still think "Treasure Planet" is more interesting as a whole. Mostly because of the Silver/Jim dynamic and the notion of making Silver an quite complex character. "Atlantis" has many interesting characters, but most of them doesn't get enough screentime as they should. But I still think "Atlantis" is vastly underrated and I still don't understand why it's so hated.

I also like Treasure Planet more. Also I like how the true villain of the movie is not Silver, but instead Scroop.

And it has one of my all time favorite songs period

This song applies to my life, every single lyric throughout my 26 years of life

I really like "Treasure Planet" but I find myself watching "Atlantis" more often. Don't know what that is telling me. "Treasure Planet" is a very well-paced film and the animation is done very well.

... Atlantis?
Oh okay, I do like both. Just that... Damn it, Atlantis feels deep compared to Treasure Planet. (for the antagonist side: yeah, Treasure wins.)

For the most part, it's a good film. Check it out when you get a chance.

I have only seen a handful of moments from "Treasure Planet" and I haven't seen "Atlantis" since it was in theaters so I really can't say. I'll track them down online and watch them back to back and see.

I find myself enjoying Treasure Planet more, as I find the characters more interesting and a fun adventure film. Atlantis, on the other hand, I felt like it started out promising, but then, became cliched and a mess, and as someone said earlier, not enough time to get to know the characters more. And the main villain just seems like a copycat of Radcliffe.

Too bad that the Atlantis TV series was scrapped, because I actually enjoyed Milo's Return more, which was really 3 episodes put together. It could have been as fun to watch as DuckTales, but we will never know. :(

Although I share a simlar thought about not knowing some of the characters a little bit more (especially Helga), I thought the characters in "Atlantis" were more fun and likeable. Too bad that too much screentime is given to Milo. While he's far from a bad character, he's still outshined by the other characters. As for the characters of "Treasure Planet", I find them bland. Although Jim Hawkins has some depth, he's still a very bland and boring character. And B.E.N. is obnoxious. The only character who's genuinly likeable is Amelia.

Otherwise, I still consider "Treasure Planet" to be the better movie.
