I will have to say, he was a great guitar player, and he was awesome for Slayer. I hate to see him go away.

Not a huge heavy metal fan (with the exception of early Metallica), but still RIP. 49 is a young age to kick the bucket.

Jeff Hanneman of Slayer died of liver failure. Can you say "Rest in peace" about a satanist and be genuine?
Thanks for the head banging fun. But I doubt your eternity will be anything like you imagined, glorified, and promoted for the last 20 or so years. You will be missed.

First Clive Burr, then Jeff. Already, this is looking like a bad year for heavy metal fans.
As for Hanneman's personal beliefs and contributions to the band, he was an atheist, but he didn't necessarily write Slayer's more sacrilegious lyrics. He helped to write the music to songs like "Raining Blood" and "South of Heaven", but his own lyrics tended to side towards themes of war. Kerry King's the satanic guy. Take the band as you will, but I only wanted to point this out.
