Color restoration on classic Disney films: Lowry's method?

I heard that Bambi needed to be recolored, this sounds really bad and troubles me tbh.

Did they repaint it completely like i've heard? I know they used the actual images of Tyrus's backrounds for color reference, but what i'm seeing is not the original technicolor?

Anyone care to add some insight?

From what I've heard, all the colors on that film are fairly accurate. They restored it directly from the original print, so they may look different from other sources, but they should be correct. I believe Frank and Ollie saw it and both said that they were pretty close to what the film should actually look like and was intended for.

Yeah, Bambi looks great and it's one of their better restorations actually. They never went color crazy on that film and kept all the warm tones as they were intended.

Which restortions do you think they did make too many tweaks?

Cinderella I think was a lowry restoration. And it is disastrous. It has also been discussed to death around here. There are many topics.
