Hi,

I'm really into "Kingdom of the Sun" recently and learned there is a documentary for it (see http://www.mouseplanet.com/8212/The_Gre ... _Never_See ). But it seems this whole thing isn't online right now but has been in the past: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/ ... new-groove

Does any of you have a working link to the full video? I'd love to learn more about the old storyline and all the songs they wrote.

A member here named jpanimation has uploaded the whole thing on YouTube but as a private video. You'll need to PM him to send you the video. He's also a member on the Blu-ray.com forum. You may need to contact him there as well.

The video is still up. There has been copyright matches with music played within the documentary but as long as nobody makes any claims (my reason for making it private), it will remain up. Just give me your YouTube account name and I'll send you the link to it.

I find it utter waste that none of this complex movie process wound up in an art of .. Book. It might very well be one of few missing artbooks disney owes their adoring public.

Thanks again to Sotiris and jpanimation. I watched the video today and it was totally worth it. Very impressive what this movie could have been. I'm so sad it didn't work out because I'm totally in love with Yzma and especially this alternate "Snuff out the Light"-Yzma!

I saw the documentary on YouTube last summer and I enjoyed it. I liked to see the designs of Manco, Pacha and Yzma. However, I still got the feeling that the film was somewhat uneven and I still wanted to see more of the "Kingdom of the Sun" footage.

I remember that I was looking forward to "The Kingdom of the Sun", because it was going to be a grand, Incan epic (by Roger Allers). I was dissapointed when I learned about the changes, but I still enjoyed "The Emperor's New Groove".

Alright, so Disney made an account on either Ultimate Disney or Blu-ray.com and PMed me like any other member wanting to view the video. Using this deception to gain access to the link, they have now blocked the video worldwide. Just letting everyone know that Disney plays childish games so be careful. Also, please don't ask me for the link when you find this topic years later.

I have a copy of it that I found online, but it's stored away for my personal viewing only.

I still have the video, I'm just not gonna risk my YouTube account getting shutdown over the head of this video. Doesn't matter that it's private (can't find it in a search or view it without permission), Disney will find a way and I'm not gonna risk it. Sorry to disappoint anyone.

Why would Disney even care if they aren't going to bother to release it themselves (if not on its own, then as a TENG bonus)? Really stupid. *sigh*

EDIT

If it makes you feel better NBC Universal Filed a copyright claim on my 4 minute video containing myself on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno Impressing Ed Asner. Now that's just Stupid.

Another good question is why Disney would even care about TV rips of certain shows from Toon Disney being on YouTube when not only did they take their reruns off the air so nobody can see them anymore, but they also don't want to put these shows out on DVD. At least they've finally gotten a decent DVD set of Goof Troop out, but I'm still waiting for them to do other shows like Bonkers and Aladdin.

So we can safely say there's no way to access this material? I tried one torrent site, but that might have just been a dead end.

Indeed it is!

Thankyou so much for posting it! It's interesting to get a real look at what Kingdom Of The Sun was originally intended to be. I know that I've already ranted about my expectations to KOTS vs. The Emperor's New Groove, so I shan't repeat myself too much.

While that being said, perhaps there are some elements in KOTS that were shoehorned in. Perhaps the climax would've been somehwat unrealistic and extraneous due to it's litteral impossibility(obviously the creators from Moana has taken some cues from KOTS and incorporated some elements of creation). However, perhaps the story as a whole does come across as a little disjointed. It's clear that Pacha is more of a lead than Manco, despite the latter having an obvious arc than the former. But it's still a pity that they never managed to fulfill the problems of KOTS, before transforming it to TENG.

I will say it once and I will say it again, the story really seems to be all over the place and didn't really seem to have structure to it. I also still think they should have named Pacha's wife after Nina, as a shout out to the early strip.

Wow. Okay then. That...sounds like an very rough draft of a movie, alright. Or, at least I hope it's very rough, because if the movie was indeed at this state immediately before it became Emperor's New Groove...yeah, I can kind of see where the execs would draw the line and tell the directors, "we've allowed you more than half-a-decade to attempt to prepare this story, but it's still not even close to good enough for a Disney musical". :shifty:

I'm seeing many major problems here. Nina seems to exist just to be Pacha's supportive love interest, but there would be no real way to remedy that since the movie is so crammed already (and I'm sure that if she had a backstory it would be mentioned in that plot outline). It's a romance just for the sake of having a romance, which isn't good romance. In general, there's no real point, since Pacha doesn't really seem to grow or learn anything. His arc is just "hey, I'm a nice guy and a llama herder so I can be a good emperor, I guess", then he suddenly can rope up the sun. Even Yzma's character seems to fall flat under the weight of this story. Snuff Out the Light is such a good villain song, but that's the only moment where her character/Eartha Kitt truly has the room to shine.

All-in-all, Manco/Kuzco was indeed truly the one who needed to be the main character. I never thought I'd say this, but thank you Disney executives.

(Although, honestly, it would have been nice if it were still a comedy musical so they could still use Sting's music. Snuff Out the Light could be rewritten into a comedy number with Kronk. Even One Day She'll Love Me could be rewritten into One Day They'll Love Me, and it could be a song about Kuzco wanting to be genuinely loved and adored despite not understanding how to be a good person. Then Disney would be parodying themselves even more than the current movie already does.)

Except for the physical appearance and age, Pacha really isn't that different personality wise in the final film. It's just funny to think that Pacha in the Emperor's New Groove could have been a twin copy of Kuzco. You know someone should do a fan fiction idea or art where the cast of the current film meet their early draft versions of themselves.

I know a lot of people say they wished the early film could have been made, but due to the obvious problems I see in this version I have a feeling it would have been pretty forgettable and be kind of like all the other films previously seen in the 90's.

Yeah, but I feel like current!Pacha works so well because he's the supportive figure in the story, not the focus. After all, his arc is essentially learning how to deal someone like Kuzco, and in-turn Kuzco is inspired to be a better person because of Pacha. It's a very traditional buddy-comedy setup, but they did it well. Both Pacha and Kuzco do actually develop rather smoothly through the movie.

Honestly, though, his relationship with Kuzco in The Emperor's New Groove seems like it makes a way better romance than original!Pacha and Nina in KotS. rotfl
