Everyone will agree that the first five animated movies produced by Disney are complete classic's of cinema (weather you like them all or not) but which is your favourite and why? I'm really intersted in this because I'm sure not one of them will come out on top.

My personal view point
Pinocchio is my favourite out of the first five (although I LOVE them all loads). I think Pinocchio has everything a good Disney movie should have, *Deep rich natural animation, how long must it have taken them to paint those backgrounds.
*Great songs, is there anyone who doesn't know the words to "When You Wish Upon a Star", "I've Got No Strings" or "Hi diddle De"?
*Three dimentional characters. You hate characters like Gidden and Honest John but cant help but like their funny sides. You love Jiminy for standing by Pinocc and feel sorry for Pinocchio when you think he's died at the time when he's acted unselfishly.
*Scary moments. I still get shivers seeing Lampwick turning into that donkey.
*Emotional moments. Its so sad when you think our hero's died saving his father.

The only one complaint I have over Pinocchio is that we get all five songs right in the first third of the movie but I don't really think there many songs you could right about turning into a donkey or being in the belly of a whale.

All in all I think Pinocchio has everything a good movie needs and desevers the classic status it has got over the years (even if it didn't set the screen alight on its first release).

Gotta go with Pinocchio. Beautiful animation, beautiful score, and for something of its age, it holds up amazingly well.

Fantasia holds up rather well because it's always been totally abstract. Bambi holds up well because it deals with universal themes. (It's not very different from The Lion King in its arc.) Dumbo is short, but sweet. And I hold a special place for Snow White because it's the first one, and without its success, we wouldn't have had all the great films to follow. Even if it does seem more dated and less gripping in a lot of ways than the 4 counterparts in the poll.

In any event, these five are all undoubtedly classics, and not just by Disney fan's accounts. To think that these all came within a span of 5 years, consecutively, with no misfires. Well, it calls to mind something like Pixar's current streak, which I feel will be hailed as masterpieces in the years to come as well.

Pinocchio is one of my all-time favorites, and is certainly my favorite from the early era.

My fav out of this list is Snow White. I don't really know why. I guess i love the fact that i can watch this movie over and over and be entertained... Or maybe i'm just in love with the seven dwarfs

Pinocchio gets it because it truely is GREAT. It helped show some new animation tricks, a la the whale scene. Also, it was historicly great because I believe it was the first film to use some type of device that the company had been building. Also, the story relates much to real life and truth. The whole story of a boy trying to become human, be good, prove all this stuff, ect. ect. Also, the two noteable songs were great. It lacked much music, but then again, it wasn't a musical film!

Bambi gets second because well, it's bambi. Some really nice animal animation. One of the best I've seen. Also, I just think it was cool that the animators worked so hard to make the six or seven spots on bambi's rear to change constantly. Oh, and I thought it was even cooler when I read that the studio brought two fawns, just to study their movements. That was cool!

Snow White is right next to Bambi. Probably since it was the first animated feature, it set the bar for all other future competition. It showed what the Disney company could do, and they surpased that! Truely a great movie. I loved it. Also, the newly released DVD makes the film look even better! WOW!

Fantasia. The thing that get's me all happy about fantasia is the animation going along with the music. It really amazes me, that people could do this stuff way back then. I really dont have much more to say since it's been a while since I've watched it!!!

Dumbo. Always, one movie has to be last, and unfortunatly it is this one! All five of these movies were superior. I guess this film got ranked last. Maybe it's because of the lack of me watching it.

So, my to do list:

Watch Fantasia
Watch Dumbo

I wasn't overwhelmed by Dumbo the first time I saw it, but it REALLY grows on you with multiple viewings. And it's really short, which makes it ideal for repeat viewings.

Pinocchio. It'll always hold a very special pace in my heart as the very first movie I ever saw in a movie theater, and it's truly great (as are all of the others.) But just that sentimentality towards Pinocchio as a result of it being my personal first led me to pick it.

I've voted for Snow White. I've never seen Bambi, so I only had 4 to choose from.

yeah. Also, the making of this film was very fast paced, since the barely altered much, and didn't scrap anything from the cut (unlike pinocchio). In my eyes, if you work at a pace, which is brisk, yet not too fast for you to rush the product, it'll be much better, rather than spending many un-needed years. I'm not saying that movies that take a long time, say bambi, are bad. I'm just saying, if you work at a pace where people know what their doing, and doing it well, you'll be more on topic/track@

Pinocchio, for all the reasons stated above. I rank them like this:

1. Pinocchio
2. Snow White
3. Fantasia
4. Dumbo
5. Bambi

So, basically, in the order they were released, just switch Pinocchio and SW.

So are the others. What are you implying here? Are you saying that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, and Bambi are not pure magic? News flash: They are. At this time period, Disney was five-for-five in quality films just like Pixar stands now (though Snow White was the only one to enjoy a really, really big boom at the box office.) All five films were truly revolutionary and, beyond their technical merits at the time, they sustained the qualities that truly make them classics today, which are really too many for me to mention here or I'd be going on and on until I fall asleep on the keyboard.

Have you failed to see these qualities in any one of these films except Pinocchio, or have you just declined to mention it?? I really hope it's just the latter.

I voted for Fantasia for a number of reasons.
Firstly, it was one of my earliest Disney memories, at least on video.
Secondly, I think it was a great experiment with animation and music which hasn't been matched for its genre (look at the sequel. It was great, but didn't have the same 'feel' as the first, even though the format was the same).
In other words, it is a personal favourite.

However, I love all of them. Snow White is fantastic to this day, and I would say that is still my technical fave, but for the reasons I listed above, Fantasia just wins out for me.

DUMBO i love all the others but thisis my favorite out of the 5

On a side note I'd rank them in this order...
1.Pinocchio
2.Dumbo ("Baby Mine" is the most emotional scene IMO in the history of cinema)
3.Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
4.Fantasia
5.Bambi
