With the movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2-Disc Collector's Edition)

So I got the DVD today and I want to know if this looks fake or used. It had no sticker on the top when I opened it. It also looks like it was re shrink wrapped.

What do you guys think?

From what I know the 2007 was a USA release and it's the exact same as the 2002 release. The only different is the 2007 has a slimmer case. Both release are OOP.

Thank you! I figured that was the case. I hope I get the 2007 version then lol. I like the thinner cases better :)

Oh I just simply neither saw it nor heard of it. Personally, either way, I like thicker cases better.

It looks exactly like my Atlantis Collector's Edition DVD. From the pic the you posted it look real.
I believe no Disney Collector's Edition DVDs had any sticker (maybe some did had) on top of the case only the Buena Vista/Disney stamp logo on the shrinkwrap behind the DVD. Also all Disney CE DVDs looked they have been re-shrink wrapped that's normal that's how Disney packed it.

Did the DVD skip on the previews when it started though?

May not be totally related but I had a case with a bootleg copy of the Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition three years ago:

One of the ways which helped me was inserting the DVD in my computer's drive and looking at the date of the creation of the files inside the disc. The bootleg DVD indicated that its contents were created in 2008 which already speaks volumes as the Platinum DVD was produced in 2002.

On my computer it did but not my Blu-ray player.
I have a feeling this is real.

I looked inside the files and it said the DVD was made 12/11/2001
which I am assuming that is right! :D

I just don't like these little scratches on the center. :(

Little scratches? Do you mean those rectangular bars? Those are the encoding marks. Those are what keep you from ripping the DVD onto your computer with ease.

Also, where did you say you bought it? Some stores sell legit DVDs, but their method for acquiring those DVDs was not legit. They may have bought the DVD at resale, then opened the packages, re-shrink wrapped them and resold them. That could be why there is no sticker.

I've bought "new" DVDs in the past that turned out to be re-sells, but not bootlegs.

I have also bought comic book bundles in plastic wrap, but they are all missing the cover. For some reason, stores who re-sell comics as "new" remove the cover.

Perhaps the DVD sticker (and the comic cover) offer ways to track where the store is buying from before resale.

No this is what I am talking about, these look like little scratches.
The DVD seems to be playing fine though. I compared it to my single disc Atlantis DVD and the quality looks the same. So I do think it is legit.
The papers do have the smell of a new DVD, but not as strong as it should. Maybe because it has been out of print for so long.

I guess I will just keep it lol.

Hmm, well unfortunately my copy is not here with me at college but back home with my parents, so I cannot advise any further.

The only bootleg Disney DVD I ever received was of Lion King II. The seller seemed to legitimately not know when I confronted him and I got a refund. It just sucks though, ha, I am very serious about buying my films legitimately. The quality was fine, it was a very close replica of the real release.

Thank you though :)

Judging from the case and the booklet that's included, I think it's not a fake/bootleg. That is, if it is indeed a fold-out booklet?

I do think, however, it's not new, but used and re-sealed.

I believe it was re-sealed as well. It was taken very good care of it though. Also the seller is denying it and saying it was brand new.

It is in very great condition and the DVD's play fine, after I did a lot of research and comparing lol. So I believe I am going to just keep it. I don't think I will be able to find it anywhere else in this great condition.

I also bought it for the bonus features because I know once the Blu-ray comes out, most, if not all of the bonus features will be dropped.

I honestly believe this is a underrated movie as well. I still enjoy it till this day. Part 2 however, kinda stunk, but I believe it was suppose to be a cartoon series which got canned.

Yes, the first three episodes produced (I believe only three) tied together into one 'film.'

I meant to post this a few days ago. But those tiny little scratches will have no affect on playback. No data is stored in that area. That area is where the disc is clamped on to the spindle, via a very powerful magnet (in comparison to fridge magnets anyway). Magnet mount sits on top of the disc to keep it secure, while the disc spins at high speeds. So if you have broken DVD/Blu-ray/CD player or Disc Writer/ROM and you need a reasonably strong, but small magnet, you can open up your player and take it from that.

Just as a note, if anyone is interested, disc data is read from the centre going out in a spiral. The actual data area has no writing on it at all, it's just that one silvery colour area.

The disc to me looks legit too, has Technocolor stamped on it (which could be replicated, but I don't think they'd bother) and has those serial numbers and barcodes as well. Would have to be professionally stamped in a disc production factory to acquire that look too (disc data area), in which case a master would have to be produced. Not sure if boot leggers go to that extent or not, but if they do, the disc data image would be identical to the official discs, dates and all.
