Honestly, I would recommend avoiding most of those clickbait Star Wars videos. YouTube is fraught with disingenuous speculation at best, but mostly it contains outright lies when it comes to these videos. Mike Zeroh is generally considered the worst offender. He'll release about a dozen videos everyday "reporting" on just about anything he can think of for views and it works in riling up the average, disaffected viewer.

If you want to keep up with legitimate Star Wars news, I'd highly recommend Reddit's StarWarsLeaks because most of the stuff posted is actually vetted and you'll quickly learn from the comments what should be considered with a grain of salt and what is actually plausible. The trash "news" gets taken down pretty quickly even if it does get through the mods' approval by chance.

2022's Star Wars movie will be announced in January and has a director, says report

Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy Says They Aren't Necessarily Finished with the Skywalkers in STAR WARS

I have to say it's a mixture of emotions, I have to say because we've had such an incredible time. It's just flown by these five years and doing these three movies and to realize that we're completing the saga and we're not finishing the Skywalkers necessarily, they could always in one way or another reappear but for right now it is bringing it to a close."

The Next ‘Star Wars’ Movie Is Reportedly Set In The ‘High Republic’ Era — Here’s What That Means
https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2 ... 91acfd19c1

The High Republic era is set 400 years before the events of Episode I: The Phantom Menace. There shouldn't be any Sith around during this time since TPM says that the Jedi hadn't encountered any Sith for a 1000 years and I don't think there were any grave threats to the Republic in this era either since the Clone Wars is the first conflict the Republic is involved with in either 1000 years or 1000 generations.

However, characters like Yoda, Yaddle, Maz Kanata, and Jabba the Hutt would be alive in this time period. Reportedly, the film will involve the Unknown Regions (where the First Order hides after ROTJ and before TFA and also where Palpatine, the Sith Eternal, and Exegol were located) and some sort of Sith Gods.

I'm assuming this is the film we'll get official confirmation of, plus the director, later this month so I'll create a new thread for it then.

Huh. That's really neat.

A practical unknown who doesn't even have his own Wiki page. What he does have though is JJ Abrams's nepotism to recommend him since he was JJ's protegee. *Sigh* I really thought Star Wars was finally free from JJ after TROS. I can believe those rumors that JJ has wanted to control the Disney Star Wars franchise since he came onboard.

Nepotism runs deep in Hollywood and Disney's no different. It's still odd they would entrust a novice with the Star Wars brand. If they wanted a filmmaker of color, there are much more qualified people out there they could have picked.

I wouldn't exactly call J.D. Dillard a "novice." Going by his IMDb, he's been directing films since 2005, including two features and he's currently in pre-production on his third.

It's now become the norm in Hollywood for directors with only some indie and television credits to their name to be given the chance to direct a big franchise title. Dillard's career path isn't that much different from Colin Treverrow (who got the Jurassic World gig after a recommendation from Brad Bird), Jon Watts, Cathy Yan, Chloe Zhao and Gareth Edwards.

Colin also released a major flop afterwards and then was sacked from SW. I read his script for Episode IX and I can see why he was fired because it exposed him as a complete hack. Whatever anybody feels about TROS, it was miles away from the garbage Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates was. The only pro in his favor was that he kept Rose as a major character in the film but everything else was basically unforgivable.

Gareth Edwards, as much as I liked Rogue One, had a production on set that was fraught with problems, hence why they brought in someone else to complete the film.

Lord and Miller are other examples of essentially freshmen filmmakers who were then promptly fired. Star Wars has a bad history with these novice filmmakers so they really should put a plug on this.

The very fact that J.D. Dillard doesn't even have a Wikipedia page is really proof enough that he's been handed this job without anything to recommend him for it besides J.J. Abrams himself. All the other young and incoming filmmakers you mentioned at least have even those. I've heard lots of people speculate this will be a Disney+ exclusive film because it doesn't make much sense to let the first new SW film handled by a novice like this. It's a pity that for several years now, Kathleen Kennedy has promised female directors for SW films but we still have yet to see that materialize.

Keep in mind that J.J. Abrams also got a high-profile Spider-Man writing gig with his son and the only thing to recommend his son was his last name.

No, the High Republic stuff was officially announced about two days ago. Basically it's just a series of books and comics that will be released later this year taking place in an era 200 years before TPM (not 400 as previously stated) during the Golden Age of the Jedi and the Republic. There are currently no plans for any films based on this era. Maybe that will change if it's a success. I'd recommend watching the trailer below which basically explains the whole thing if you want more details and images.

^ Thank you!! I'm excited that they're delving deeper into the history of the Jedi, but I'm kind of bummed it won't be a movie/show.

"The information again comes from the "future ruler of Earth," Doomcock, from the Overlord DVD YouTube channel."

Oh, yes, that reputable source "Doomcock." Anti-Kathleen Kennedy and anti-Brie Larson YouTube channels seem to be a dime a dozen these days, only existing to create clickbait videos saying "Star Wars" or Marvel is doomed or some nonsense, often with some rant about "SJWs." I wouldn't believe anything that comes from these YouTube channels.
