Disney's First Hispanic Princess?

This is something I've only just learned about.

I do not consider Sofia an official Disney Princess. Her debut will be in a Disney Channel movie, rather than the canon of animated features. And just from reading the article, it feels like a shallow attempt to give people a Hispanic princess, without the trouble of creating another major feature.

She's suppose to be Latina? She doesn't even look Hispanic. She look as white as any white-bread northern European.

Sophia's mother, the queen definitely looks more Latina is voice by Latino actress Sara Ramirez.

Sophia looks nowhere close to Hispanic. Blue-eyed Hispanics are a rarity plus the hair and skin color are too bright for her to even be considered part-Hispanic.

I'm with the OP on Sophia's officiality as a Disney Princess. Though the company probably thinks that officiality should be based on marketing success instead of a presence in the WDFA canon. It looks like they're looking to market Sophia towards Hispanics girls in the same matter that Tiana markets to African American girls.

Idk I'm Latino so if Disney is going to make a Latina princess she's got to look something like this:

No, I think the Latina villainess would look something like that :o

Anyway isn't the market a little crowded with Dora, Diego and Handy Manny?

Her color doesn't matter when it comes to her being Latina/Hispanic. They are not terms that describe racial background, but ethnicity, for census purposes. If her mother is from a fictional kingdom set in Latin America, then yeah, she's Latina.

The fact it's not being advertised to me mean this isn't an attempt to just make a Latina princess so people will shut up, but an artist choice on part of the creators. From the sounds of things her mothers background will be visible in the show. I think it's fine.

The latino community should be offended that the first latina disney princess is.... completely horrible in terms of animation, writing and directing. She is born within one of Disney's most misguided concepts of recent years.

At least Tiana was given a royal treatment.

Even though skin color doesn't matter, in order for Disney to show that little girls of all different colors can be Disney Princesses, she should have more color. You can say looks don't matter all you want, but they do, in that we should see and accept and acknowledge all colors.

I've been against the notion that Disney HAS to make a Princess of every ethnicity. Even if you were Hispanic, in this case, why would you want a token Princess?

I'd rather see great stories than pandering to some politically correct notion. Tell a great story that is based on a legend or fairy tale in Hispanic culture rather than just trying to push the ethnicity of a character. Know what I mean?

Do some research, get really into the culture and produce something that's authentic.

That's more RuPaul's Drag Race than Latina Princess.

I don't think she'll be counted as an official princess.

I wouldn't kill her with fire, but I was a little stunned on first viewing the image. I refrained from commenting in case she were related to Christopher_TCUIH. Since that doesn't seem to be the case, I suppose I can admit that I find her hideous.

Sorry but Latinos don´t fit on specific characteristics.

I´m a white Puerto Rican living in Spain. Here, no one can tell I´m from there. In fact, a Spanish girl that wanted me to fill a questionaire was amazed when knew that I was.

Plus, here are two Puerto Rican Miss Universe...both white:

My boyfriend is a white Puerto Rican. Muy guapo. Speaks English impeccably with absolutely not even the trace of an accent. And people usually think he's either Italian or Jewish!

So he speaks with a standard American accent?

Wish I could do accents. I'd love to know what my English would sound like with American or British accents.
