As we head into October and Halloween approaches, Pixar Animation Studios is terrified to announce a very scary TV special in the works for next year's Halloween season. In 2013, prepare yourselves for Toy Story of Terror, in which Pixar will take you on a trip to infinity, from the beyond!
What starts out as a fun road trip for the Toy Story gang takes an unexpected turn for the worse when the trip detours to a roadside motel. After one of the toys goes missing, the others find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate in this Toy Story of Terror.

There's also another TV special planned for spring 2014.

Cant they come up with a plot that doesnt involve someone getting separated from the group? Looking forward to this none the less. Wish we didn't have to wait a whole year for it.

That's cute. You are right though, would be fun to see something without a toy being lost !
These shorts are very cute indeed; it would be fun to see another film able to have some as well.

Dylan Brown (Pixar Canada Creative Director) wrote:Our first works at Pixar Canada were six-minute pieces, and some one-and-a-half-minute films, which we call shorty-shorts. But we set up the Vancouver studio to produce the 22-minute specials. Pixar in California is currently working on the first one, called Toy Story of Terror.

First screenshots.
"We’ve gotten to see a lot of development in Woody and in Buzz and we felt it was Jesse’s turn to really show some growth," producer Galyn Susman says. But that doesn’t mean other characters will get shafted; in fact, we’ll finally get to know Combat Carl (now voiced by Carl Weathers), the soldier toy who faced Sid’s wrath early on in the first Toy Story.
"There was some support to make a scary, but not necessarily Halloween-themed half-hour Toy Story special for television. There was some concern early on about not making it too scary for kids. I think we’ve done a good job of balancing staying true to Toy Story and staying true to the genre. As far as adults are concerned, I’ve always thought that we make these movies for ourselves. I think it’s funny and like the other Toy Story films, I think there is plenty of stuff in there that only adults will get." MacLane also mentions that the short will explore a road trip family dynamic among the characters — including Bonnie’s toys, who were introduced in the third film.

I'm kinda glad its not overtly Halloween themed. Those tend to date themselves more easily I find.
I wonder why they feel the need to bring Combat Carl into this though, isnt this basically retconning the original toy story? It was heavily implied I thought that he was dead after the explosion. Though being a toy I guess you could always find some excuse to reassemble him. Or it could just be A combat Carl, not THE combat Carl.
Glad to see Jessie getting some focus. She didn't get a huge role in Toy Story 3 afterall. I wish they would find a way to bring back peep somehow.

Looks awesome! Glad to see Jesse coming into focus, I hope they maintain the fantastic quality of the shorts too. Little gems when you get to see them in the cinema

I hope it's better than the last short. The one with Rex in the bathtub. That was.... a big nothing.
But this seems to be a longer special with a bit more story. We'll see. I think this is the best way to keep this franchise alive, through shorts/ TV specials etc. We don't need more movies, but this is a perfect alternative for giving the characters new adventures without exploiting them to the point where it will become repetitive. I loved Mater's Tall Tales and if it they had stuck to just shorts/specials for the Cars characters, that well would not have dried up so quickly.

Awesome, can't wait! I wonder, if it's a TV special does that mean they won't have the original voice actors? It seem the pre-movie shorts (<10 minutes) are original voice actors, but the TV specials (30 minutes or more) are sound-alikes. I would kind of hate to see these very strong characters be reduced by using voice-alikes, whenever I see the Disneyland commercials with Buzz Lightyear that don't use Tim Allen, it just doesn't feel right.

I'm sure the original actors will reprise their roles. They really seem to love working on Toy Story so I can't see any reason why they would pass this up.

The next Toy Story Toon has been revealed!:
http://animatedviews.com/2013/new-toy-s ... thic-rock/
"Last week, readers got their first glimpse of the Toy Story of Terror TV special. Now word has arrived on another Toy Story project in the works: Mythic Rock, as listed on the résumé of producer Kim Jorgensen Adamsthe. Mythic Rock appears to be the latest entry in the Toy Story Toons line of shorts, following Hawaiian Vacation, Small Fry and Partysaurus Rex. At this time, the short’s plot is unknown, as the title could refer to anything from Buzz finding a moon rock to Bonnie adopting a pet rock to the toys having a jam session. What is known, however, is that if the short follows the tradition of its predecessors, it will be attached to one of Walt Disney Pictures’ theatrical features – although guessing which feature might be a tricky endeavor…
Pixar’s Monsters University already has The Blue Umbrella attached this June, while Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen is rumored to have the Mickey Mouse short Get a Horse in November. Unless Disney changes its usual game plan and attaches the short to a more teen/adult-centered film like The Lone Ranger or Thor: The Dark World, then only two features appear to be candidates for Mythic Rock: this summer’s Planes and next March’s The Muppets…Again! With that in mind, the magazine ToyWorld advertised last year that an untitled Toy Story Toon would premiere in spring 2013. Since that time has already passed, perhaps audiences should anticipate the short sooner rather than later."
