While surfing Amazon looking for items that have long been on my wishlist, much to my surprise I found one of my favorite series from childhood, The Life and Times Of Grizzly Adams, is FINALLY getting a long-overdue Season 1 DVD release, courtesy of Shout Factory/Timeless Media!

The series, which aired in prime time on NBC for two seasons beginning in 1977, is about a man in 19th century America accused of a crime he didn't commit, who escapes into the vast unsettled Nature of the American west and lives in harmony with Nature and the animals. He befriends an orphaned grizzly bear cub named Ben who becomes family.

Anyone who enjoys episodes of The Wonderful World Of Color/Disney from the 60's and 70's that were set in Nature and featured real animals interacting with a human cast will probably enjoy this show.

It is a pleasant surprise to see this available. Most of my favorite TV series (like this one) are considered "family" or "children's" series; are from the 60's, 70's, or 80's; and usually don't get season set releases. Even my highest-profile favorites, Disneyland/Walt Disney Presents/The Wonderful World Of Color/The Wonderful World Of Disney, which ran on network TV for 29 consecutive seasons; and the original Lassie, which ran for 19 consecutive seasons and had 591 episodes, are barely represented on DVD other than a few token episode compilations.

The Life And Times Of Grizzly Adams joins the original Flipper as the only members of my lifetime Top 8 TV programs to recieve a complete season set in Region 1.

Since Grizzly Adams only ran for 2 seasons, hopefully a second season will be forthcoming (especially since the first season was a midseason replacement, 13 episode half-season and most of the series' 37 episodes are from Season 2)
