I am currently working on Disney wartime shorts and I'd like to know how those movies are perceived within Disney fan communities.

:)

Could you please complete this short survey:

Disney Survey

Thank you very much

Thank you so much!

And for those who might not want to fill this out because they don't know anything of Disney wartime production:

Please do complete it, it is precisely this which is likely to interest me! :)

I edited one of the questions:

Chicken Little is not here the 2004 film, it is a propaganda short by Disney !

Wouldn't it be better if you listed all the cartoons and films in question 1 also in question 2?

What kind of paper are you working on and in which class?

Thank you for your remark; yes it could have been better to put the same list in question 2 but actually I don't doubt that most people here know and have seen Snow White and Fantasia, I just needed one question to underline that while the Disney features of the late 1930s and 1940s are well-known by Disney fans, it is not always the case for the wartime shorts.

As for me, I am a French student studying American civilization. Working on Disney propaganda shorts allows me to consider many points on propaganda, education through animation and generally speaking the history of media. :)

Thank you very much!

Do not hesitate to share this survey with people interested in Disney, or in WWII propaganda.

And feel free to elaborate a little on the subject here, although I know some related threads already exist.

Filled it out yesterday. I always carried a strange fascination for the WWII animated material from Disney and other studios. :)

I also feel this is fascinating material.

But I'm really amazed at the structure of the Front Lines DVD, for those who have it.

How could they call the first section "Propaganda and Entertainment" whereas it is hardly propaganda at all (except for the controversial Commando Duck).

Btw, in my survey I ask people to specify race/ethnicity. This is NOT somehting common for me (in France this is actually forbidden), but I felt it could be useful here since some of the shorts contain racial stereotypes (as was the case with all the Hollywood propaganda, but still) :)

Done.

I'm yet another of these folks who find this material fascinating. I own the Disney Treasures set (all the Disney Treasures sets, actually; It's the only big DVD collection of its type I made sure to never miss a release of).

Completed the survey.

However, is there such a thing as a "White Race"? Sounds so KKK. I believe the right word is Caucasian? Don't wanna nitpick, just seemed so weird when I read it.

I agree, though it is still what I usually see whenever a survey or application of some sort has a race section.

There are some other things I find annoying/confusing too, because I'm of mixed race. I am usually forced to choose between white or Hispanic, while I am actually half and half, or I can choose "Other" if it is offered, but that always makes me feel like I'm an unknown race from some place no one has ever heard of. I also hate having to be labeled "Hispanic", which is such a broad and generic term these days (more about countries and language than race), and that selections usually read "Hispanic/Latino", which just makes it even more generic, annoying, and inaccurate, since Latino tends to imply that your heritage is from the Latin American countries, and such peoples are really types of Native Americans. They should just put Hispanic if they insist on being generic, redundant, and inaccurate, though I would prefer Spanish. And most people who would call themselves Latino are only part "Hispanic" or Spanish, or none at all.

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer if we could all just stop thinking in these racial terms.

As I said, I am not familiar with asking someone about race or ethnicity and I found "White" in most surveys.

If you are half-stg and half-stg please feel free to specify it; if you think asking about race is not a proper thing to do, skip the question.

Those shorts display racial clichés on Japanese so it might be interesting for me to know your "race" or ethnicity (although I repeat it, those are tabu words in French).

I didn't mean to direct my complaints towards your survey. I was speaking about the race question in general, because here in the U.S. they seem to ask that on everything (maybe it is mostly optional, but really, if they ask then they want to know).

I like European-American or Caucasian. Especially when other races are listed with hyphens rather than just by color. My boyfriend is Puerto Rican and he identifies as Latino/Hispanic White. I love that in France one's race is forbidden to be asked. That's interesting...
