Since I highly doubt that Pixar's upcoming movies about dinosaurs or the workings of the mind will be set in Italy, I'm assuming that this must be a different unannounced project.

Pixar, the animation studio of such successful films as Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and Wall-E, chose Florence as the location for one of its upcoming animated films. The project will launch a comprehensive partnership between the studio and the Italian city. The mayor Matteo Renzi, the commissioner Giuliano da Empoli, and the creative director of Pixar, John Lasseter, met on the morning of the 4th of July during a meeting held in the Tuscan capital where the famous filmmaker is currently on holiday with his family.

Later, in presenting a festival of performances, Empoli said, "Lasseter is a true humanist, a genius capable of combining his work with art and technology. He is exactly the kind of person you would like to work with in order for Florence to attain world-wide exposure and an even more international air.

If I understand the translation correctly, the title of the movie is "Hypothesis."

Doesn't La Luna also have ties to Italy? Or am I just remembering wrong?

This is pretty cool, though. It's nice to see all the new ideas Pixar has in line. I wonder if all these ideas came about similarly to the Monsters Inc., Wall-E and Nemo "luncheon."

I don't see why a spanish titled movie would have italian ties.

Latin and Catholicism. Especially if the time setting is during medieval and renaissance era

'La luna' means 'the moon' in both Spanish and Italian. The short does have Italian ties as the director, Enrico Casarosa, is Italian and the story is inspired by his own father and grandfather. The newly-released holiday version of the poster proves that the title is in Italian and not in Spanish as 'Buon Natale' means 'Merry Christmas' only in Italian.
