8th Annual UltimateDisney/DVDizzy Forum Awards - CEREMONY

by SpringHeelJack
So, there I was was, sipping a delicious Thankstini on a beach in Cabo, being thankful for both Miguel the Cabana Boy massaging my aching feet and for the fact that finally, finally, my obligations to the UD / DVD Forum Awards were done. Done! An entire blessed weekend to be spent drinking my weight in vodka, eating my weight in whatever-food-is-considered-to-be-a-delicacy-in-Cabo, and having my feet daintily exfoliated by those tiny fish that live off of your dead skin, which just goes to show how God has a purpose for all living creatures. Alas, alas... it was not to be.
I was stirred from my drunken stupor by the dulcet tone's of Daft Punk. My cellular phone! It was surprising both because I was not expecting a call and because I really didn't think AT&T could get a signal in a fairly well-populated area. I kicked the endangered turtle I was using as a footrest out of the way and lamely slapped the phone until it opened.
"Brenders! It's Albert. Just wanted to see how your vacation was going."
I mumbled some snide remark about how it was going downhill now that I had to talk to people, and Albert laughed it off, consummate old pro that he is.
"Anyhow," he continued, "I was just wondering when you were going to start the awards. People here are getting antsy."
"I guess you'd better ask the host, huh?"
"Well, you ARE the host. That was part of the agreement."
"No, I don't think that I am. I'm pretty sure I asked Neil Patrick Harris to do it."
"Did you actually ask him to do it, or did you just assume he'd show up out of force of habit?"
"No, I'm pretty sure I spoke to him the other night. Then he turned into a giant lizard and ran away."
"That sounds an awful lot like a dream."
I replied with some language very lacking in Disney Essence (C), causing a nearby mother to force her child's head under the sand, much like an ostrich.
"I thought so. You better get back here and start."
"Look, man, you've done this before. Can't you just cover for me?"
"Sorry, can't. You know those little fish that exfoliate your feet?"
"Yeah, I've got an appointment with those in fifteen."
"Well, I've got a whole foot bowl of them and a pile of Black Friday Blu-rays, so I'm pretty much spoken for."
"Great. Just great. So long, non-refundable vacation deposit."
So I boarded the next plane to the UD / DVD boards and got here as soon as I felt like it. I have some loose notes written down about an opening routine. It sounds pretty great, I'm doing my own version of the Götterdämmerung, with rewritten lyrics to include zingers about all the people here on the boards, and it's going to be really neat and it took a lot of time and money, so I'm gonna-
I'm sorry, I was just handed a note. Apparently we're already running 16 hours behind, so my opening number will have to go. But, really guys, try to imagine it! I'm sure you'll all laugh.
Anyhow, I'm gonna change out of my swim trunks finally and into my rented tux, so I'll be right back with the first award of the 8th Annual UltimateDisney.com Forum Awards, Avatar of the Year. Stay tuned!
...or don't, see what I care... lousy award show eating up my vacation like so many little foot fish...

Well, how's that for a quick change?
...anyhow...
At the risk of being a Johnny Dragtheshowout, and because, much like I threatened, I wasn't gonna go nuts writing elaborate speeches for EVERY topic, let's begin!
Our avatars are like the novelty underpants that our virtual selves wear to show... eh, whatever. Look, enigmawing actually prepped for this, so let's check in with her, shall we?
EnigmaWing wrote:Avatars . . . believe it or not, they're more than just airbenders or cat-smurf people; they're even more than just the little picture square thingies we often see under our friends' user names. Those little 100 x 100 pixel images (or sometimes larger, if we feel like being sneaky) represent not only what we like, but who we are within the community. Ranging from abstract little pics to characters, photos to animation, logos or even phrases, avatars are often minitaure works of art that define us even more than our user names do (which is a good thing, lord knows my user name doesn't make any sense). They often show our humorus side as well, or delightfully confuse people over our gender. And while we've seen a lot of great ones in the past 12 months (well ok, 13), only one can truly be called Avatar of the Year. And without further ado, this year's nominees are . . .
Goliath: Aladdin / Hercules

Mooky: Ariel

Reyquila: Mickey as Pikachu

Scarred4Life: Fantasia/2000

Super Aurora: Mickey Pokes Out His Eyes
AND THE GOLDEN MICKEY GOES TO...

Mooky
Mooky once commented that after staring into his avatar for extended period, he could see through time. We were all very worried.

Remember this guy's avatar?

Congratulations to Mooky and the other nominees!

Well, it's, um, in my inbox. OOPS. Look, I work retail on Black Friday, and my brain has turned into a puddle of goo... Sorry about that. Let me edit the last post to rectify your missing speech.
But now, for one thing that no one for sure helped me out with, signaturessss.

Congrats,
Disney's Divinity! Beautiful banner there.
Thanks,
Sotiris.
SpringHeelJack- Working retail on Black Friday? I feel for ya. Even though it's been a few years, I still have nightmares about being trapped at my register while having to push those damned Target Visa Cards.

Waaahhhhh I used to work at a Target too! I truly feel your nightmare. I don't think I sold one of those damned things in the several months that I worked there...
And on that happy note, let's move on to our next award,
Forum of the Year!
Forums. Forums are the oiled cogs that make this message board a message board. Without them, we would just be a header that said "DVDizzy.com / UltimateDisney.com Forum Index." They have the power to make us laugh and make us cry. But at the end of the night, we all know that not matter how important each forum is, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE WINNER.
And the nominees are...
Forum of the Year
Disney Discussion
General DVD Discussion
Movies, Music & TV
Off-Topic
AND THE GOLDEN MICKEY GOES TO...

Disney Discussion
Disney Discussion is a multiple award winner who has been romantically linked to Movies, Music & TV, but refuses further comment on their relationship.

Congratulations, inanimate object!

Hello you wonderful people.
What would this years awards be without an appearance from your favorite and mine the Guruettes.
Due to our managers increasingly busy work schedule/family issues a musical # was not able to be put together but just wanted to drop by. Wanted to give a special shout-out to SpringHeelJack for taking on the gauntlet and doing the Awards ceremony this year. It is a big effort and I am sure everyone here would like to join us in a round of applause

And of course to our wonderful webmaster Luke and his tireless efforts to keep us all up to date on film releases and his movie reviews which keep on getting better and better.
Thank you all and congrats to all winners announced and to be announced. May you all have a wonderful Christmas season.
Attached is one of our Holiday Favorites and hopefully you will enjoy it as well.

Aw, I will accept your kudos but reject your "Glee." My weekend was stressful enough without that bringing me down, man!
But since I'm here and since I have some time to kill before I duck offstage to eat dinner and look into getting some of those foot fish sent here, I might as well announce another winner! Yay, winners!
Ultimate Disney DVD Review of the Year
While we all appreciate the message boards here, you'd be a complete jerk to overlook the many many reviews that Ultimate Disney and DVDizzy are home to. Be they Blu-ray or DVD, Disney or... someone else, the reviews here consistently provide well-founded opinions, loads of useful technical statistics, and plenty of information about the films themselves. I myself always am glad that all our reviewers keep such good tabs on what special features are added or dropped from the newest goofy-named Disney DVD editions. For this award, we will focus solely on the Disney DVD reviews. So, without further stalling for time, I'm pleased to present...
Ultimate Disney DVD Review of the Year
The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story
Have a Laugh!: Volume One
Have a Laugh!: Volume Four
Toy Story 3
Waking Sleeping Beauty
Walt & El Grupo
AND THE GOLDEN MICKEY GOES TO...

Waking Sleeping Beauty
Waking Sleeping Beauty is widely acknowledged to be the best-looking and most popular DVD review of the year, but refuses to let that go to it's head.

Well done, "Waking Sleeping Beauty!" And seriously, if you guys don't own this one yet... buy it (through amazon to support our website).

Ohhhhhh I'm just jerking your chain. I'm working this weekend! Nothing any of you guys can do could possibly bring me down more than that did.
So, shall we continue for the evening? We shall? Bully!
Continuing our topic of praising DVD reviews, we follow up with our next award,
DVDizzy DVD Review of the Year! Having dealt with the Disney DVD reviews, we move on to, as they would say in the first season of "Gilligan's Island," the rest. It's only two noms this year, so as you can imagine there have been quite a few cat fights backstage as both have a fifty percent chance of winning! Rather than try to generate more suspense in a category where you all had half a chance to win big bucks in your UD/DVD Award Polls, let's get down to business!
DVDizzy DVD Review of the Year
Easy A
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: 40th Anniversary Blu-ray + DVD Ultimate Collector's Edition
AND THE GOLDEN MICKEY GOES TO...

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: 40th Anniversary Blu-ray + DVD Ultimate Collector's Edition

All hail the new winner!

Moving right along, we continue to the final DVD review,
Ultimate Disney / DVDizzy TV on DVD Review of the Year! From a bunch of dudes in spandex to a misbehaving child in Neverland to a talking rooster to a bunch of dead guys eating people to... I'm not quite sure what "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" is, the TV on DVD reviews have really run the gamut this year! With six nominees, you all had a lot to pick from (and yet some of you didn't pick any! Guys, that makes me cry!). And now, the noms! Om nom nom!
Ultimate Disney / DVDizzy TV on DVD Review of the Year
The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! Volume One
The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! Volume Two
Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Yo Ho, Mateys Away!
Foghorn Leghorn & Friends: Barnyard Bigmouth
Sigmund and the Sea Monsters: Season One
The Walking Dead (Season One)
AND THE GOLDEN MICKEY GOES TO...

The Walking Dead (Season One)
The Walking Dead (Season One) is a show about people who eat people. I thought the zombie thing was played out, but people really seem to like this show! I mean, I'm not really a fan of zombie stuff aside from like "Night of the Living Dead" and that ilk, and because my roommate is always going on about them I'm less inclined to check them out since he's always like HEY I'M GOING TO WATCH SOME AWFUL ZOMBIE MOVIE NOW and I'm like come on, Alex, I want to use the TV for once and he's all like MUMBLE MUMBLE ZOMBIE MOVIES MUMBLE and I just end up being like ugh, fine, do whatever, I'm going to hide in my room for a while, and... I digress.

I for one welcome our new zombie overlords!

Who's got two thumbs and is back from his last day of work for the next two days so he can actually post some awards? THIS GUY!
Fun fact, I actually have 1.8 thumbs because of a tragic Arby's incident and... well, perhaps thats best saved for another thread.
Anyhoo, we're actually not QUIIIIITE at the point where we all pat ourselves on our respective backs, we still have a few more non-member related awards to dish out. I'm planning on finishing these tonight, if possible, and since I'm off tomorrow, I'll be updating much more frequently (probably starting in the afternoon so people can be around) and we'll see where that takes us.
So, now let's polish off some more of the "technical awards,"
Ultimate Disney / DVDizzy Blu-ray Review of the Year, which is the last review category, and
Topic / Thread of the Year. As part of our ongoing commitment to the latest technology, we have retired our
VHS Review of the Year award and upgraded to Blu. And what an upgrade it has been! We've got seven movies in five packages, which adds up to 7560p amongst the lot, but let's see which one (or two) of the movies managed to rank even higher with our voters.
Ultimate Disney / DVDizzy Blu-ray Review of the Year
Alice in Wonderland: 60th Anniversary Edition
Bambi: Diamond Edition
Fantasia & Fantasia/2000: 2 Movie Collection
The Fox and the Hound & The Fox and the Hound 2: 2 Movie Collection
The Lion King: Diamond Edition
AND THE GOLDEN MICKEY GOES TO...

Fantasia & Fantasia/2000: 2 Movie Collection
Fantasia & Fantasia/2000: 2 Movie Collection would like to remind you that they do have their own unique individual identities, despite what the packaging might imply.

Huzzah! Next up! Important topics! We've had a lot of laughs on the board, and a lot of love.
*cue canned audience "awww" sound effect*
Also, we've had a lot of religion, custom covers, upcoming movies, and debate about some sort of Disney extract mined from Uncle Walt's frozen head, if I understand this rambling topic properly.
Topic / Thread of the Year
Another Religion Thread by ajmrowland
Disney Custom Cover Sets by milojthatch
The Disney Essence Debate by Dr Frankenollie
Disney’s Next 2D Animated Film *Here We Go Again* by PatrickvD
AND THE GOLDEN MICKEY GOES TO...

The Disney Essence Debate
I mean, probably this award should be accepted by Dr Frankenollie because he made topic The Disney Essence Debate, but where would we be without Dusty's contributions? In my eyes, you're BOTH responsible for this whole kerfuffle, and really, where would we be without it?
