i'm still working on collecting Frank Capra movies ( I LOVE all of his movies so much). recently i've come across a dilemma and thought that my good friends on this forum might be able to help. it appears that the film Meet John Doe has lost its copyright and anyone can distribute this. the result is like 15 different dvd releases almost all of which are poor quality.

my question is this: "which copy of Meet John Doe is the best quality? which one should i get?"

thanks for any and all input out there. i know that posting a cover pic may take up bandwidth, so if you can't describe the cover art just email me a pic or send up a link to a pic of the coverart. thanks again, if there's anyone out there who can help me with dvd questions i knew it would be someone on this forum.

You might know since you enjoy the Capra movies is there a good release of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington?

This is part of the Columbia Classics range and should be good, and has good picture quality and some supplements.

the Mr. Smith disc is an excellent transfer. the beginning shows a few flaws, but it appears that there is nothing that can be done. the transfer on the colmbia disc is directly from the national library of congress' this is what a part of the insert says:

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was one of the initial selections made to the Library of Congress National Film Registry. Technicians in the Library's Motion Picture Conservation Center in Dayton, Ohio, spent three years and $100,000 to restore Mr. Smith from the surviving original negative materials.

this is honestly the best transfer i've seen. on a side note. this is my favorite film of all times. i saw the film on a whim once and have never forgotten the impact it left on me. this film is the reason i've started collecting frank capra movies.

speaking of.....does ANYONE have any info yet on a good Meet John Doe disc yet?
