The animated adventure follows the journey of a 12-year-old boy (Zac Efron) as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams (Taylor Swift).

To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax (Danny DeVito), the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

It's not that bad.

I like the visuals in this a lot, and hope the quality is more along the lines of Horton Hears a Who rather than The Cat in the Hat. :)

However, since the Lorax is one of the lesser known Dr. Seuss stories, and it's not had any other movie about it since well the original cartoon. This could get people and kids looking back at other Seuss books that aren't Grinch, Cat in the Hat, or Green Eggs and Ham.

Also the original Cartoon is coming out to Blu ray combo pack to tie in with this movie.

I agree with that tenfold

I actually liked Blue Sky's Horton, and hopefully Illumination's vision of The Lorax won't disappoint since I saw the trailer. Sure the jokes could be corny, but at least the visuals are nice.

I dunno, I mean, this can hardly be any worse than "The Cat in the Hat."

The trailer could've been worse, and like others have said, the visuals look reasonably well-animated; unfortunately, I didn't laugh once at any of the cliche and unoriginal jokes.

@disneyboy20022: could you please stop posting so many TGWTG clips? It's becoming a little irksome. I half-expect you to put a clip of the Nostalgia Chick being annoyed in your next post.

I'm rather excited by this. I love everything Seuss and The Lorax was always one of my favorites. While I don't think I'm fond of Devito voicing him, I'll get used to it (and for that matter Zac Efron's so not 12 year old voice being there and not the sexy rest of him) but I look forward to this with great anticipation.

Or better yet, let him NOT do any TGWTG jokes. I don't like those TGWTG people except for Guru Larry and The Cinema Snob.

I like most of them myself expect for the "Blockbuster Buster" who needs to work on his stuff & "Distressed Watcher" who I loath for many reasons. Point is, I'm a fan and still think the clips can be a tad much at times...

Could we not turn this into a who should post or not post videos from youtube, as long as I'm not personally attacking anyone, (which please have a mod or Luke contact me if anyone feels that way) I've not posted the no no no rant, since yeah that does get on some nerves...the 2nd one of NC is only 2 seconds. If anyone else has an issue with this, please contact Luke or mod and take it up with them.

Now Let's get Back on topic about the Lorax and Dr. Seuss

It will probably be a good movie. The Animation looks wonderful and is very possible I will see it in 3D if it is offered. I hope there are other lesser known books of Seuss could be turned into movies. Yurtle the Turtle, and also Horton Hatches an Egg I think would easily fit in well.

Also a CGI Animated of The Cat in the Hat meets The Grinch. However I would Not like Mike Myers as Austin Cat in the Hat Powers or Jim Carey as the Grinch in a live action version.

Although I would be interested in seeing Green Eggs and Hams into a CGI Animated movie....not sure live action would work

I am not sure I like the idea of turning Green Eggs and Ham into an animated (or *shudders* live action) film. Think of the jokes that could come out of that. They would probably give some stupid back story to why the main character hates green eggs and ham (similar to why the grinch hated christmas in the 2000 film). However if they do it in the same vein as Dr Seuss on the Loose, then it would be fine.

I know these are just kids films, but what was wrong with the short films? I kind of thought they summed up the plots of the stories nicely. The main problem I have with turning kids books like the Lorax into feature a film is having to pad them out to fill the time. This can either make or break the film, depending on who writes the script.

I think that the reason why The Grinch and Cat in the Hat failed (review wise) was because of the innuendo jokes, which seemed to be a middle finger on Dr Seuss' works.

One thing I've never understood about these Seuss film adaptations is why no animation studio has thought of doing an animated movie based on Seussical the Musical? I found it to be a very enjoyable stage show (well, the production I saw, anyway) and would translate so well to animation. However, it seems unlikely now as they've already done Horton Hears a Who and that story was the centre of the play.

At least that one's funny.

How long ago was Horton? I skipped out on that one for the same reason I've skipped out on most of these kinds of movies: I'm tired of films defined by their formulas.

Isn't anyone else?

I agree with Frankenollie that this movie has no appeal for me (and I re-watched the original Lorax last week- it's an excellent adaptation and doesn't need a movie version).

Although, I disagree that the trailer couldn't have been worse. 4(.5) words: Alvin and the Chipmunks - 2007.
