Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters Gets a Release Date!
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/ ... s/?a=48003
Studio has set a release date for the upcoming sequel to Chris Columbus-directed fantasy film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
First movie starring Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson was released last year and it received mixed reviews from critics and fans. It had a reported budget of $95 million and it made more than $226 million worlwide. Chris Columbus directed the film, with Brandon T. Jackson, Sean Bean, Alexandra Daddario and Pierce Brosnan also starring. Since there are five books, 20th Century Fox has set a release date for the sequel, which is a second book in the series.
Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters will be released on March 27, 2013.
It is still not confirmed whether or not Chris Columbus will direct the film. More info should be revealed soon.
And this is a short summary of the second book:
When Thalia's tree is mysteriously poisoned, the magical borders of Camp Half-Blood begin to fail. Now Percy and his friends have just days to find the only magical item powerful enough to save the camp before monsters overrun it. The catch: they must sail into the Sea of Monsters to find it. Along the way, Percy must stage a daring rescue operation to save his old friend Grover. He also learns a terrible secret about his own family, which makes him question whether being the son of Poseidon is an honor or a curse.
I guess they figure there's a clean board since the conclusion of the Harry Potter films and all. There are so many things they need to add to this movie or something from the book, or a director's cut of the 1st movie. Perhaps introduce the mist, Kronos. I'm not sure. The Books are better, so it'll be interesting to see where this leads and all. I'm sick of the the Conan, Immortals etc.

This news just outright pisses me off. The first movie was a HUGE dissapointment for me because I am a fan of the book series. It was as if everyone involved in the film read a 1st graders book reoport of the book and produced the whole film around that.
I was really hoping the film would be left alone for a decade or something and then picked up again starting over with the first book on a completely clean slate.
I sincerly hope that all set design, most casting, script writing, and most production team is replaced. They really do need a complete 180 to save this film series from being complete crap.

This is sad news. The first movie was a Turkey, and I guess they think that now that "Harry Potter" has completed its storyline, they have an open door to walk through.
The first thing they should look at is how badly reviewed the first movie was and then someone whould read the books and see how far off they were in their presentation of the first movie.
I'll put this movie in the same category as "Eragon" - One and done!!!!

We all know Logan was shit as Percy Jackson in that movie. Like seriously, Fox is making another one? Fox means greed.

Wow, I had no idea so many folks around here hated the first movie. Am I really the only one here who is excited about another? I have no idea if it will happen, but I really want to see all five books get turned into films.
I actually had not read the books before I saw the film, which I will admit could be part of the difference in perception here, but I have been reading the first book recently and while I really love it, it has not lead me to hate the movie. People who want 100% pure adaptations from books to film need to let it go, it can't happen. Two different forms of communications. There will always be a loss in translation. That said, some films based on books can get really close either in specific situations or feel. I felt based on my reading of the book that they did a great job.
If anything, I'm kind of sad that Disney let this one go, it was their publishing company. They should have made this series their own. Oh well, not to surprised by that actually.
Anyway, I'm kind of sad, I was hoping the new movie would come out next year. I hate how much time is between these films. IF they did make all five, that would take forever to get done. Narnia has the same probables. At least it is getting made I guess. Great news!

Yeah trust me, if you haven't read the books, that's the big difference. I look at it as a movie Stand a lone fine, for I read the books. It will be interesting what more the tweak, or add, or keep from the books in this one. Also I agree, Disney should have had more of an influence on this since it was by their publishing company....
I wonder if maybe they'll add things from the books in the sequel, but maybe the mist will have to come added back but say they haven't needed it in over 200 years and it's because of Percy Jackson and the trouble about is the reason they bring "The Mist" into play. Also Perhaps they will send the Wine God down to the Camp for security and he blames Percy for getting kicked off Olympus or something. Maybe they did an investigation and Kronos is behind it that they found out. Or maybe there should be a director's cut and added footage to the first film if they truly want this to be a series franchise. idk.

A trailer has surfaced.

This Trailer looks Awesome. It looks like a more faithful adaptation from the book based on the trailer

Apparently they took my advice

No, your not alone on this. While far from cinema gold, it is a film that I had a lot of fun with and quite enjoyed. I was pretty psyched to see another one after this one and to know one is coming out pretty soon has me excited again. It's a fun story with characters that are entertaining. I don't know what the book is about, but people have to understand that books and film are two separate mediums. What can be said and done in a 300+ page book can't be translated to a 90-100min movie. There is always going to be something lost. Personally I thought Logan Lerman did a fine job in the film, but there was room for improvements. However, hes' come a long way as he's really good in "Perks of Being a Wallflower."

I think it would have been cool to see Disney adapt this film in animation as it would translate well. I could have easily seen Ron and Jon adapt the film in a hand-drawn style.

I forgot they were making a sequel. I still haven't seen the first one after reading all the horrible reviews. I read the book series (well, the first five books anyway), so I wasn't in a mood to watch all the changes they made, tbh.

Okay, I'll bite. What happened? March 2013 has come and gone and no "Percy" sequel? Someone either dropped the ball, or they meant that the new movie, heaven forbid there is a second one, is scheduled for 2014.
Information that is this dated, makes a lot of us feel like we are being lead around with a ring in our nose. Can someone verify that there is even a movie coming to the theaters, or, what I have heard, that it is coming directly to video.

I still plan on missing it!! The first one sucked, and I can't see where this one will be any different.
Why didn't the posts saying it was coming in March 2013 didn't get changed. You know how to do this don't you?

Yes I know how to do this. It was pushed back to August of 2013. I made this thread in 2011. There hasn't been any news of this until now so quit questioning me on if I know how to make a post or thread on the forums. I will alter the first post with the trailer.
Also this one will be better. I can tell from the trailer that it should be awesome. They are including the Greek Villain equivalent to Voldemort known as Kronos. Also it appears to have more of a magic factor to it such as the Wine God will be at the camp and the fact they are including the Kronos threat, which in the last movie there was no talk of him, but I'm glad they decided to listen more to the book from what I can tell. It looks more awesome than the first so I'll definitely be checking this one out but I won't make my expectations too high.

Exactly! I realize that folks who fell in love with a book would want a 100% faithful adaptation of the book as a film. It will never happen. However, that said, some are closer then others.

Should there be a third Percy Jackson Movie

I've been wondering what you guys thought about there possibly being a third Percy Jackson Movie.
I actually liked Sea of Monsters much better than The Lightning Thief. They changed some things again but I felt it was done great. I loved Stanley Tucci as Mr. D and also Nathan Fillion as Hermes.
One thing I thought was dumb was Kronos, however I have a theory on what would happen. When Kronos swallowed Luke, perhaps his essence now resides in Luke and like in the books, Kronos's soul takes over Luke's body.
I would love to see a third Percy Jackson, but with the Box Office results listed below, I'm not sure Fox will try again, even though it could lead directly into a Titan's Curse given the cliffhanger that happens in Sea of Monsters that happens in the book and the movie. I know it says they made $180 million on a $90 million budget, but that budget that lists how much it cost to make doesn't include advertising and promotional things.
Here's the Box office results

Also these are the box office results of the first Percy Jackson movie

Hi, the above is a petition for the remaining percy jackson books to be made into movies. As of right now, the film has grossed over 192 million $ on a budget of 90 million which is pretty good, but still less than the first one. The Blu ray is coming out on December 17. Buying it will go towards support of making the next film, as the blu ray sales of Lightning thief are what made Sea of Monsters. If you could sign and share this petition on social networks and post my claims on your site and tell others to do the same, that'd be VERY appreciated! Remember you have the option of not having your name appear if ud rather not be visibly involved. Even if you did not like the movie, think of those of us who want another movie
As well, here is a video you can also post towards further suppert
