My interest in records began in 2004. I knew of them and played records previously to this but I found a small box of my Dad's records and at that point I decided to start getting more. Of course then I had no clue about pressings or even condition so whenever I found an artist I liked, I bought the record regardless of condition. Nowadays, I'm much more aware of things such as pressings, condition, mastering (which could probably be a thread in its own right), etc. I can't believe I've been collecting this long now. My newest venture now involves me looking for UK pressings of certain albums. Most of my records now are US pressings.

But I'll tell my tale.
As a kid, in the early nineties, a friend of mine still had a record player, and I was absolutely mesmerized when her mother took out this huge square cardboard thing, and took out this huge black disc out, where music would come out. I knew of CDs, so this was entirely new to me. Later, since I listened a bit to 60's and 70's music, I bought a record player myself, and I have to say, that magical thing when I hold a record in my hands, still exists. The much larger artwork helps too. Some album covers, like those of Pink Floyd, look just so much better on that bigger cardboard, than on that tiny CD booklet.
As far as collecting, there are just these certain things that make it appropriate to have on vinyl, mostly older music. I have a couple of things on vinyl, that were never released on CD, so those few are my prized titles, if you even want to call them that.
My record player is somewhere in my basement, since I need to replace it with a proper one. However, some other things just get in the way. I also sometimes have the feeling that it's kinda unnecessary to own largely the same music on CD as on vinyl. The format itself might be superior, but the hassle around it doesn't really make it that much better.

At one time my Record collection was in excess of 30,000 records, LP's and 45's, and a few 78's.

At one time I had the largest and most complete collection of the music of The Who, Paul McCartney, and Linda Ronstadt.

I even made the front page of the entertainment section of the Los Angeles Sunday Times because it was discovered that I had some true rarities in my collection.

That was probably 20 years ago. I have a vast knowledge of music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and even appeared on a radio program on KGO Radio in San Francisco called "Flashback". A program where callers called in to try to stump us with song titles and artist of those years. Proud to say that in the 75 weeks I was on that radio show we got stumped only about a dozen times. The only rules were that the song had to be the "a" side of the record and it make an appearance for at least one week on the Billboard Music Charts.

I have since replaced most of my regular collection of music with CD's, but I still have a very nice turntable and stereo system so that my Who collection sounds great on.

I am always around garage sales looking for music on vinyl, and have at one time or another been known to buy boxes of records and then take tem out to Swap Meets and sell them to make some money.

To date I have over 3500 CD's in my collection, I have approximately 230 Who LP's and about 175 Who 45's, and 5 original Sun recordings on 78's of Elvis Presley.

My dad has a lot of records. He has a bunch of sun records, especially of Elvis, though I don't remember him ever being an Elvis Fan. Even my mom said that. Perhaps it's an Aspie Middle Age Crisis Part 2....but he has gotten me a few older Disney Records and some others I like. He told me he bought his first CD Player in the 80s for $900....and that was the actual price around the time he bought it. His first Cd I think was an Elton John: Goodbye yellow brick road
