Blu-ray.com announced today that Don Bluth's 1995 film The Pebble and the Penguin will be released on Blu-ray 10/11/11 from MGM.

I'm a Don Bluth fan, and although this isn't my favorite of all his movies, I'll probably get it for the right price. Amazon currently has it for pre-order at $13.99, but I'll wait until I can get it for less than $10, either on eBay or somewhere else online with a coupon or something.

Special features will include:
-No Stone Unturned: Making-of Featurette
-Now and Forever: Music Featurette
-Theatrical Trailer

These are the only extras? There's nothing new. And I bet they won't even remaster them. Talk about cheap!

And what's with MGM not releasing combo packs for its animated movies but just single disc Blu-rays?

I'll get it eventually.....not on my to get immediate list...

I have the VHS of this and I used to love it as a kid. I haven't seen it in ages, though. I might get it eventually (especially if it stays that low of a price), but it is unfortunate that there are so few bonus features. I'm still waiting for Thumbelina to be released on (a better) DVD or Blu-ray.

If only we could actually see the version that Don Bluth intended to make before the studio screwed him over to the point that Don Bluth wanted his credit removed from the film. That would make the movie worth buying for me.

Being very honest, so far, Don Bluth movies being released on Blu-ray are I think the most exciting Blu-ray release I've head of. Each one thus far has actually done a better job with the various film then previous DVD releases, which is more then I can say for a lot of Disney!

I liked this film when I was younger but I've never owned it. It was just never on my radar as a must-have, but I think I'll pick up this blu release for sure!

I love Don Bluth's movies, but.... this isn't really one of my top favorites.

I'm still waiting for An American Tail (let alone Fievel Goes West) to come to Blu-ray! C'mon, Bluth and/or Spielberg!! What's the big holdup?!?! X(

Maybe they're holding out to see if indeed there is going to be an Animated Mickey Mouse Movie by Disney.....or whatever next mice movie is. Also An American Tail (and Fievel Goes West) deserves a terrific transfer and tons of bonus features. Same Goes for The Land Before Time. (not the 500 sequels)

I'm sorry if I sound like a spoiled brat in this post, but I don't WANNA wait God knows when till they come out!!!!!

Has anyone picked a copy of this up yet? I'm curious about the picture quality. I believe it was painted digitally (ala Disney's CAPS system), so it should look pretty good since they can source it straight from the computer (or at least they should ).

I saw it at my local Walmart for $10, but I'm going to try to get it for about $5 with an online coupon/gift card or something, because it's not really my favorite Don Bluth film.

I picked up The Pebble and the Penguin DVD for $5 (5 Dollar Bin) at Walmart. It was in a 2 pack from MGM Movie Collection with Rock-A-Doodle. If you are looking for extras, I do not think this one has any extras on it. Hope that helps.

I have the bluray, will watch it this weekend. Can't say the picture quality is a vast improvement but that was to be expected since All Dogs had much grain as well.

All things considered not a bad blu-entry..
