Hello! I figured a lot of people always ask whether or not some DVDs are worth buying. This thread is for those of us needing advice from those who have a plethora of Disney DVDs . So anyone else needing advice or wants to offer a recomendation, feel free to post!

ºoº Kram Nebuer is here again seeking advice. Okay, this time I read the review for the Sword in the Stone. It seems like a pretty decent single disc DVD, but I'm not sure if I should get it or not. I've seen bits and pieces of the movie and I really want to see the Goofy Cartoon and some of the other bonus features. I know the price had been reduced for this one, but I don't know if I should get it.

Also, I need to save money for DVDs I really want, but won't come for a while (Mulan II, Aladdin: Platinum, THe Happiest Millionaire). Another one I've been thinking about is Robin Hood, since I have a coupon for it and its price will be reduced soon. What should I do?

And I think you should buy SITS, because I LOVE THAT MOVIE AND I'D RATHER YOU BUY IT AND I DON'T SPEND MY MONEY!

BTW, does everyone here know now that Kram and I are brothers? Like, really brothers with the same genes, and we don't just call each other that?

Above all save your money for Aladdin.

But if you are going to buy one now take Sword in the Stone over Robin Hood. SITS isnt great, but Robin Hood is among the worst Disney movies.

I might even buy TWO Aladdin DVD's Just in case one of them wears out!
...No way Jose! Robin Hood is one of the better movies! It's definatly one of the better ones!

I totally agree. Every week we have at least one person asking "Should I buy this", and a sticky thread would provide 1) an easier place to glance through all the individual opinions on DVDs;
2) make the board less cluttered with ('Should I buy...' threads).

At any rate, Kram Nebuer - my advice!

If you can only afford a few DVDs this year (and god knows, I can only afford a few, but that doesn't stop me from buying heaps!) I would save up for those you really want - especially Aladdin, as it will go OOP after a few months.

As for the others, I can highly recommened the Sword in the Stone disc. As you say, very packed for a single disc and is worth it for the complete Disneyland episode alone ('All About Magic').

A-men! Sadly, there's a difference between what I can afford and what I spend, and it never comes out in my favor.

What is up with the So Dear To My Heart DVD Release ? It was supposed to be released in 2000 in the Gold Collection. What happened to it ?

Take your pick:

1: Disney left the gate open one night and all the sheep escaped. They're currently busy rounding them all up for the eventual release.

2: Disney are waiting to tie the home video release into a theatrical release of another "Sheep Farming" movie. It's gonna be a long wait.

3: The lamb (Danny) is black, and Disney refuses to release the movie fearing a Song of the South type racial backlash.

4: Disney are waiting for the first reported case of "Mad Sheep" disease* before "restoring" and releasing the film. Danny will be redrawn in a "wacky" Looney Tunes style and have trouble standing up in the "restored" version.

5: Disney don't want to release it because people will begin to question the none availability of the similar Song of the South.

6: Disney feel the film is not relevant to today's audience. They're refilming sections to include sheep cloning, genetic modification and steriod and antibiotic injections.

7: Disney are afraid no child who lives in a big city in the 21st Century will know what a sheep actually is.

8: Disney have forgotten the film exists.

* Yes, I know it already exists and has dones for centuries and is called scrapie.

Thanks for the advice guys! I think I will pick up SITS next time we go to Best Buy or something! I will definitely have to see the Disneyland Episode! I loved the one they included on Pirates!

This would be a good sticky b/c a lot of people will want to post there if they need help and I know I'll always come back since I'm always not sure about what I should and shouldn't buy.

Oh, and I'll definitely set aside money for Aladdin and for all the platinum editions. I promised myself when I preordered Snow White that I would get the whole collection.

I was thinking about saving on shipping when I order Brother Bear soon, but the only thing I might think about getting is Dinosaur - Collector's seeing I have all the other collector's editions. The price is a bit hefty but do you guys think it is worth it? Will it eventually go oop like Tarzan or what?

As long as you like the movie, you should definitely get it. I wasn't too moved by it, but it was an okay movie. This one was going to be my first DVD purchase, but then Snow White was being advertised so I never got it. I don't know if it will go OOP, but even if it does, I don't think it will disappear from stores too fast. There are still a lot of SLeeping Beauty's and Fantasias at Sam's Club

It was a movie I didn't like at first, but have grown to really like it.

And unlike current "special editions" it is a really good one. You did see the start of the "game mania" that is present on all recent Disney discs, , but the audio commentaries and Disc Two are REALLY good - some of the most comprehensive stuff you are going to find on the making of a 3D animated flick.

I guess it is also a historical curiosity - Disney's first venture into 3D before handing the reigns back over to Pixar, and then taking them back again and making a truckload of their own 3D stuff.

It is by no means the greatest film, but as a DVD it is really cool.

Bumping this up so people notice it. Ask DVD advice here!

I hope so Yoda, because I want quite a few Gold Collection titles that I'm waiting for a better release, such as Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, The Aristocats...

It seems to be the trend. I mean, Alice came completely out of the blue (to me, at least) and Pocahontas and Stitch seem to have planned 2-disc sets, as you mentioned.

I think, marketing wise, any re-release of a title (and they will all be re-released eventually) will be a 2-disc, simply because it seems to be the standard incentive to get people to upgrade. Actually, the "2-disc" (whether needed or not) has become the industry standard (witness the Lion King 1.5 2-disc).

Has anyone been able to find the newly released (March 2, 2004) DVD, Walt: The Man Behind The Myth at any local retail locations? I have looked everywhere, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Blockbuster and no one is carrying it. What's the DEAL!?

I can't find it either! Is it only available online or something?

I have also looked around for Walt the Man Behind the Myth. I have not found it at any store anywhere, but it is available on Amazon. I guess that's our only chance at purchasing it.
