One reason I actually watch the Nostalgia Critic (Doug Walker) is for me to learn how to do certain facial moves or differ voices.....I'd really someday like to voice a cartoon Character if I ever got the chance..my ultimate dream would be to voice a Disney Villain....that would be very humbling to me....and excite....and I might see about going to the local community college and see what they have for voice acting or something like that I heard they did start something like that recently

I don't want to be on disability forever if I can work well given all my medical stuff that I know that even some 50 Year olds don't know....If you ever are in the hospital and a doctor or nurse asks you or says you're SOB it doesn't stand for a rude comment..SOB translates out to Shortness of Breath....NPO means You can't eat or drink anything until the doctor says you can (if your put in the hospital that happens a lot....especially if you're having a certian MRI or a blood test or other things

AMA....translates to I want to Leave Against Medical Advice....so you'd have to sign a paper saying you leaving against medical advice and then you get punched with a big bill that your insurance won't cover because you left AMA

Oh Heck I could probably work in medical coding or something....and maybe I will...who knows....I want to be able to support my Fiance in the future and when we get married (date not known yet but not for at least 4 Years I think) I may end up failing due to my medical problems frustrating me....my Colitis of Unknown Origin (just found out I may not have Crohn's...but a mini version of it called Microscopic Colitis or aka what I call it a Colitis of Unknown Origin)

And sometimes in the past I've said I'll work on my life once we get this medical stuff out of the way or I know more...and to be honest....I don't think I will ever know for sure or how to treat it....so I need to at least try to do something.....and work with the Department of Human Services to help pay for it so I don't lose my disability in case a job or college doesn't work out....One other thing is....I take a lot of pills.....pills that are prescribed and I need...and without my parent's insurance ( I can be on it until 26 thanks to Obama anyone else can be on their parent's insurance Plan even if your not in college...up to the age 26) Pills cost a lot....and that's why I want obama to win because that healthcare plan might be the only one I could get on my own...since of Pre-existing conditions that I'd have to wait a year or more and that would include, autism, adhd pills, colitis pills, iron, gout, antibiotics for when I get a huge sinus infection due to my Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate having a few holes on the roof of my mouth...they took some cartilage from my hip when I was a baby and basically put a roof of my mouth using that, though there are some holes still there and getting it fixed is too much of a pain in the rear end.....and sometimes stuff comes down from my sinus tract on one part so it's hard to avoid getting a sinus infection when you have holes on the roof of your mouth that lead all the way up to my sinus tract....

My mom was born Unilateral Cleft Palate (one side of her face was effected where mine it was both sides...if you ever here someone say a hairlip...that's what Cleft Lips are....) Anyway her dad (my grandpa that I didn't know that well until he had his stroke and was grumpy all the time, and I wish I could know him today or know how he really was before he had several strokes and died over two years....) said when my mom was born that he was thankful they had health insurance to pay for the surgeries my mom would need....here's what the insurance said (I think it was blue cross blue shield and this happened in 1961) They told my grandpa that they do not cover birth defects noted within the 1st 24 hours of life.....and he was like hell with insurance he quit it cause that was a load of bull (i'm sure many would agree)

That's one reason I didn't vote for McCain because if he won it would have been back to those dark times...and they still exist...and the government is not going to tell you which doctors to go to etc etc....they'll have a preffered list of who they'll cover but hell that's with every insurance...heck the doctor here doesn't let me see a specialist when I really do need one (colitis doctor) and I can't make an appointment because they require a refferel ....even though my dad's insurance does not require it at all....there are insurances today that already tell people what doctor they'd cover more than the other...I'm not sure on the mandatory thing....I think it's a good Idea because everyone needs it...however if a compromise could be made to not make it mandatory I understand that to an extant....

Back to the NC (Doug Walker)

Doug Walker aka NC, Chester A. Bum, and that guy with the glasses He's Inspired me to want to voice act or commentate or be an announcer...heck I was at a Twilight 2 Midnight release party at the local wal-mart when it was released to dvd...(don't ask why I went....my life was going no where and I wanted to get out of the house and this was before I met the love of my life)
when the employees where trying to get the crowd of 50 some odd people to be quiet I shouted QUIET so loud It makes Shrek's Roar sound like a Kitten....the loudness I have of my voice...or even a speaker of my story of what I've been through with all my medical stuff or a motivational speaker..

Tell me what you think...and let's keep this discussion positive or agree to disagree, I know creating a somewhat political thread on the forums can get well way out of control that it looks Mars Needs Moms look like the Film of the century etc etc..

Here's a song that motivates me from not asking what if all the time....

Well, I want to say that I think voice acting sounds good because I would think you could do that anytime, anywhere and stop at any time if you had a medical thing you had to do.

Don't let anything stop you from trying. If you try, and it doesn't work out, you will still at least have that instead of wondering what if like you said. It may take a while for you to find what you really want to do in life, but that is normal for young adults of our age, so go ahead and find out however long it takes! Though personally, staying home with a loved one enjoying life for the rest of my life doesn't sound so bad either. But if that's not enough for you, do whatever makes you happy, whatever you like. And if getting a job that isn't so great, but pays for things, gives you more money and supports your girlfriend more, is what makes you happy, then that actually is great, and you can do it.

If you are going to be a voice actor, though, make sure you are trying a lot of different voices, not so much expressions and other stuff. And listening to the voices of actors in any movies may be good, too.

I hope you get better with all your medical goings on, and good luck to anything you do. Just go do!

If you don't mind my two cents for a bit, it is great to know that you are inspired to pursue voice acting. That being said, there was something Billy West (voice actor, known for voicing Fry from Futurama, Ren in Ren and Stimpy among others) said that should apply to you.

"Voice acting is more than just doing silly voices. There's a lot of preparation involved, a lot of discipline".

While that's not exactly how he said it, he pretty much says that there's more to everything in life than just the voice. So you feel you have talent in voice acting. Good for you. But just because you can shout loudly it doesn't mean you have the discipline to pursue voice acting as a career.

The good news is that you CAN achieve the discipline. You can read all about voice acting, learn how to alter your voice, how not to hurt it, do a voice demo of the voices you can do, learn to imitate accents, listen to how people speak, practice breath control, learn to project your voice onto something and many, many other things.

A college professor once said "Schools and colleges should put its students in the "war field" so to speak. That way, they know if their dream career is the dream for them".

This means that often we try to pursue a career thinking we can do it, but when it comes to actually doing it, we have second thoughts. Again, that's where acquiring the discipline comes in.

As for the Nostalgia Critic, I respect that you admire him and he's an inspiration, but by any mean he SHOULDN'T be the only one. In truth, he is just a guy on the internet doing silly stuff. Again, look up information on other voice actors and see how THEY achieve their talents. In all honesty, they should serve as better reference that Doug Walker, especially people like Jim Cummings, Tara Strong, Jeff Bennett, Tom Kenny, Tom Kane and many more.

Once more, I hope you don't mind my thoughts, but I've been in a similar situation like you. We all have been, and through experience I've learned to keep an open mind, accept realities, as harsh as some may seem, and achieve DISCIPLINE through academic preparation as well as experience.

Doug Walker isn't the only one to inspire me....he's just the one that really nailed it in for me as of late...it was only a few days ago I found out about this Voice Class going on at the community college that is 5 minutes from where I live......I can do funny differ voices.....and some serious voices.....The only reason I'd use my loud voice is if a script called for it or I was an announcer somewhere......or maybe I should be a Preacher...but you don't use a loud voice all the time....I've been listening to songs from Disney Classics and been working on some dialogue with differ voices....From a Mob member (the whole town's gonna be mine, see..) I watch Jim Carey, Robin Williams, Danny Devito, British, Nightmare Before Christmas, Nathan Lane Christopher Lloyd, Mike Myers, and some other people. I've also that of becoming a comedian....some of my life stories honestly sounds like a sitcom or a greek tragedy....I can close my eyes and see things that happened nearly 12 years ago...and it feels like it really happening, whether its a bad experience with a teacher, or a fun moment...it's odd....of course in my opinion There Is no Such thing as "Normal". and that's not a bad thing.....some of the greatest things or ideas came from people who weren't considered quote "Normal"...Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Jim Carey, Michael Jackson, Walt Disney, the list goes on and on...My Point is...Normal is in the eye of the beholder
