'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' Looks to Continue Its Rain
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/ ... teman.html
A sequel that has been in early development at the studio is getting a new push, with John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the writers of this weekend's release, "Horrible Bosses," coming on to write a draft of the script, according to a person familiar with the project who asked not to be identified.
Though the first film was loosely based on the 1970s children's book of the same title written by Ron and Judi Barrett, the sequel will be based on an original idea, not the Barretts' follow-up book, "Pickles to Pittsburgh," the person said.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are not returning to direct the sequel; instead, the producers are set to hire a director who had worked in a lower-profile capacity developing the story for the original, the person added. A Sony spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Sony has reason to push forward with a "Cloudy" sequel. The original, with voices including Bill Hader and Anna Faris, grossed $125 million in the U.S. and an additional $118 million around the world.

I think this has potential. For all we know, they could come up with something just as creative as the first one.
Interesting how the Horrible Bosses writers are also working on King of the Elves.

I'm sorry, I know these facepalms are getting VERY cliche, but I am just sick of Hollywood making sequels to movies that do not really need them (for example, The Hangover).

If you're getting bored of the facepalm, you can always use the facedesk for the same purpose.

For once, I disagree. That movie was good. No need for a sequel, but it was good.

I'm conflicted...
I don't know what to hate more. The fact that every mediocre film in Hollywood gets a sequel nowadays...
... or that stupid guy with the glasses that DisneyBoy keeps posting.

I love Doug & the site (other than the awful awful awful Distressed Watcher) too, but I was starting to think that the clips were starting to be a bit much so often and all. I just didn't wanna seem rude or mean.

Not to mention, it's always his worst and most un-funny bits that get posted, for whatever reason. Maybe it's just me, but I can't stand his screeching and much prefer his more down-to-earth and subtle snarky jokes.

I hate the Nostalgia Critic ever since late 2010. Sorry to say this.

cloudy was kinda mediocre but far from a bad movie.
Would you rather have a great film get a mediocre sequel or a mediocre film get a great sequel? Either way, the former's a worse situation that damages the view of the original.

I've never understood when people say a bad sequel diminishes the quality of the original. I don't like The Lost World, but that doesn't make Jurassic Park any less great in my eyes.

It's actually kinda sequels at all that do that for some people.
Nice, tasty millk.

Sony Pictures Animation has set Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn to direct the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Cameron and Pearn are Sony Pictures Animation artists who worked on the first film.
Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who wrote and directed the original 2009 movie, will executive produce the follow up. Kirk Bodyfelt is producing.
The picture has not yet received the green light.

It really ticks me off that crap like "Meatballs" get a sequel while quality films like "The Incredibles" does not. Fair enough, the latter may get one sooner or later, but still.
While my friend was at Sony Animation, I kept my mouth shut. But now that he's gone, I can say this and feel good saying it: Sony Animation sucks. I can't think of a single film they have made that wasn't crap. The closet was probably "Monster House," but even it wasn't that good. "Surf's Up" was uninteresting, the "Open Season" films have been just gut wrenching and "Meatballs" was horrid. I kind of liked the start of the film, but then it just went down hill.
I actually want Sony to make good, quality animated films, I'm just not sure as of right now that they know how. This is why Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks are the head of the industry by the way, their worst crap is ten times better then a production house like Sony Animation's best film. For the love of animation Sony, fix your animation department and stop making crap!
PS: I have not seen it, but I hear "Aurthur Christmas" is good, but I'm sure that has more to do with Aardman then it does Sony.

Amen. However, I'm not against sequels, just ones that are unnecessary. Which as it turns out, is most of them. I say if it does not further advance the original film's story in a logical manner and thus add more depth to the over all story, you probably don't need it. Most sequels are cash grabs, nothing less.

I actually liked the original. A lot.

I'll withhold judgment until more is revealed. For the record I also liked Surf's Up but the Open Season films are just plain unwatchable to me.
I'm not sure why everyone has to freak out over these announcements.

If they announce another Open Season I'll just ignore it.

agreed. i think a lot of people in general confuse good with "exciting and original", and surf's up is a bit different. .
