Casey Anthony Trial Verdict

I know most people have probably heard of this (my mother has been watching this non-stop), since the media has made it their focus now that the royal wedding magazine event has ended. :P

She was decided to be NOT GUILTY for murder, child abuse, and manslaughter. She was found guilty for lying to police, though at most she'll end up in jail for another year since she's already been there for 3 years waiting on the trial.

Personally, I think the ruling is fair except for the child abuse. I don't think there was enough evidence to convict her for murder/manslaughter, but she was chloroforming the child and, even if you ignore that, she obviously wasn't watching the child while she was partying and the kid was conspicuously nowhere to be found. Neglect.

What I hate is all these media freaks like Nancy Grace acting like the jurors committed some great sin and didn't come to the "right" decision. They must be seething right now, after their whole "guilty until proven innocent" crusade.

Your thoughts?

I'm in Britain so I've only been able to follow the case over the internet and don't know all of the details but she'll only have to serve another year in jail even though she was choloroforming her own child?

Well, it was mostly circumstantial evidence that she was chloroforming her daughter. The computer at home showed upwards of 50 search for "chloroform" (at a time when nobody could've been in the home but Casey), and I think where Caylee's body was found reeked of it (or maybe it was Casey's car, I'm not sure). The body was too decomposed to use DNA for a sure thing, but it was pretty damning. Mostly because she supposedly had her daughter with her all this time, but none of her friends at parties ever saw the daughter and her Zanni the Nanny story was proven false. It's assumed she chloroformed her daughter and left her in the car so she could go party while she was asleep. Probably too much of that caused the death, accidentally.

But all the above is speculation, which has a lot to do with the verdict. Ultimately, the jury decided she was not guilty, so any time she'll be serving will only be for lying to the police. Everything else was dropped.

This Casey Anthony case reminds me of the movie "Chicago". I hope Caylee's ghost haunts Casey Anthony forever. I love how Mike Vick got prison time for dog fighting, but this high school drop out, who is probably the greatest liar in the world, gets scotch free for killing her child. There was a very tiny chance she would be found not guilty, but I didn't know that nonsense would come to fruition. God must have had mercy on her or she was touched by an angel or something! I wish Casey Anthony would teach me how to lie! She's GOOD! The girl asked her neighbor for a shovel!!! What other proof do you need? Honestly, I think it was an accident that just went wrong. When she wanted to party, Casey probably tried to use chlorofoam to put the child to sleep when the drugs she used ran out, but it killed her instead.

Not gonna lie, I kinda want to party with Casey Anthony. Her clubbing pics looks fun. She knows how to get down! Her child was missing and she was still partying. That's dedication. She looks like she knows all the hotspots!

"The Devil is dancing tonight."- Nancy Grace. Haha I love that woman. So dramatic. When she hates someone, she HATES them. I remember when MJ died, she really didn't care.

Hm...yea, she should definately get put away a lot longer than one year, for child abuse and, you know, trying to cover up that she killed her daughter.

Aw c'mon man! Are you serious that you love her for not caring? : ( I think every person should care at least a little when another person dies.

Not interested in getting into some kinda 'b-b-but the LAW!' squabble, but I just gotta put in my two cents and say I think she's guilty as sin and, while I'm not sure about the death penalty (easy out, I think), she should certainly NOT be going free. This whole thing is a disgusting mess.

I will never understand how someone could kill a child, let alone THEIR child.......

Oh no no no no no. I love her bluntness. But I wasn't her biggest fan when she behaved so wickedly during the Jackson death fiasco. She was an insensitive witch.

I honestly can't believe how people could actually want a fellow human being to be put away in jail for life, or worse, be killed. I thought punishment was there to teach people what happens if you do something bad. How does throwing somebody in jail for the rest of their lives teaching them that? All that is doing is making the people who, for some reason, feel like they know that the suspect committed the crime, and know that somehow that ruining yet another life makes up for the life that the suspect ruined, which it won't. You can't take back actions, but you can fix how you act in the future. How can somebody grow if they are thrown in jail for life?

I am extremely happy that this young woman will have a second chance in life. My only hope for her is she proves everybody wrong (that means you, Nancy Grace, who said she is bound to commit some other crime and wind up in the same place again..) and lives a happy, fulfilled life.

Also, there was obviously not enough evidence. People reacted to the verdict with so much anger. But honestly, there IS reasonable doubt, and you don't throw somebody in jail for the rest of their life if there is such doubt. Because, there is a great chance that she is innocent, and immagine ruining another life due to a mistake.. thats terrible just thinking about it. And even worse is the fact that I am sure many innocent people have lost their lives due to peoples' all knowing hunches . Nancy Grace was saying how she thinks that the jury felt like they got to know Casey in those months and let her go because of that..

Who cares about teaching her anything? Wouldn't it be better for everyone if she were locked up so that... oh I don't know, maybe she wouldn't be able to DO IT AGAIN?!?!?!?

Sheesh.

Well, to reiterate, nobody knows (except her and Caylee) know if she actually did it, and to ruin her life without being almost certain doesn't make sense to me. And assuming she did, I honestly think the chances of her doing it (or something like it) again are ridiculously slim. I don't think she'll have another kid, keep said child, and kill her again (though I am sure you meant something similar.. like.. I don't know. I really don't think she has an illness where she enjoys having children and killing them, but who knows?). I guess with something like multiple offense sexual predators, sending them to prison for long periods of time makes sense, as people would feel unsafe with them around. But honestly, would you really feel unsafe being around Casey, or having children around her? We don't know what happened, but I doubt she enjoys murdering children.

It's possible she just wanted her daughter to sleep so she could go out, and she used chloroform to put her out. She may have used to much, killing her by mistake, and she was too afraid to say anything for a month (with good reason). Not that I think using chloroform on your child is right, but honestly, how is she going to repeat this crime, whether it was a mistake, or on purpose? She's obviously going to right her behavior, because if she goes back to court for pretty much anything, with her record, it may not be pretty.

I may have a romantic view on crime and punishment, but I just don't see how putting her in jail for life can keep her from doing it again. What is "it"? Hurting other children?

If she didn't do it, she still obstructed justice by telling an insane amount of lies for no damn reason. Also, for going out and acting like freaking Lindsay Lohan when her child was missing/murdered. She would have deserved any punishment coming her way.

She deserved no sympathy or further attention from the media.

Oh and by "it" I mean having more babies that she'll neglect. If Teen Mom and Dr. Phil taught us anything it's that there are more than enough bimbos out there that don't learn from past mistakes and just can't keep their legs together.

I think she should have got more time in Jail for not telling the police her kid was missing after 31 days.....that's child neglect if I ever heard of it... and there's a a new law being proposed....Caylee's Law

http://www.christianpost.com/news/casey ... law-51949/
More than 266,000 people have signed a petition on change.org to create Caylee's Law. Started by Michelle Crowder of Durant, Okla., the petition states: "I'm writing to propose that a new law be put into effect making it a felony for a parent, legal guardian, or caretaker to not notify law enforcement of the death of their child, accidental or otherwise, within 1 hour of said death being discovered. This way there will be no more cases like Casey Anthony's in the courts, and no more innocent children will have to go without justice."

We weren't there for all the proceedings and evidently there was mostly circumstantial evidence presented, and you can't convict someone with circumstantial evidence, according to the law, unless it proves above and beyond a doubt that a crime has been committed.

I look up "rat poison" on Google, but that doesn't mean I am going to try to poison someone does it? You can't convict someone for using their computer to look up something.

The prosecutors in this case didn't present a strong enough case to cause the jury to believe that the little girl was murdered. The only thing that was proved without a doubt was the fact that investigators were lied to.

Today (Thursday) we will see if she goes free. "Time served" will probably be the sentence, and she will be freed. But this does not mean that she will have a life after this. The hatred for her has spread the world over, and the judge will probably say that if there is any "profit" to be made from a story or movie about this, those profits will go to pay for all the bills run up in the course of this trial.

And because of the 'double jeopardy' laws, she can't be tried for this again.

Personally, I think she would be better off in prison, because her face has been plastered all over the internet and news services, and unless Witness Protection can be called in and have her notable features changes and place her somewhere in the US, to get a fresh start, I don't think she has a life worth two cents outside those courtroom walls.

And she was punished for that. Whether or not she was like Lindsay Lohan is no reason to put someone in jail for life though.

I heard this morning that the judge gave her the maximum sentence for lying to police (4 years), but since she's been in jail for 3 years waiting on a trial, speculation is that she could be out by the end of July.

About that petition disneyboy posted: a law I would like to be in effect is allowing parents/children not to incriminate one another. There’s already a law that keeps spuoses from testifying against one another, so I honestly think one should be in place for the parent-child relationship. Everybody knows a mother is going to lie to save her child, even if that child is Casey Anthony, so I’d hate to see Cindy Anthony go to jail for perjury.

I agree. I don't know this case and I'm not going to comment on it, but I agree with your sentiment. The only times I think 'jailtime for life' is acceptable, is when you're dealing with big-scale, planned, deliberate (ordering of) murdering (like war criminals) and/or when the defendant is mentally ill and is a danger to society.
Alphapanchito wrote:But honestly, there IS reasonable doubt, and you don't throw somebody in jail for the rest of their life if there is such doubt.
That's true, but it's a tough decision. I mean, hard evidence may technically be missing, but that doesn't mean the person is automatically not guilty. The only downside of our judicial system is that sometimes people who are guilty are still not convicted. But I agree, in case of reasonable doubt: no conviction. You should watch the movie 12 Angry Men sometimes; it deals with this subject brilliantly.
