Entering the Harry Potter World, we encounter the opening of a new website called Pottermore.com. J.K. Rowling launched the website with the words “Pottermore, Coming Soon” and a countdown clock. The clock counts down to the date of June 24th but the author has been silent as to the reason about the site and what she is creating.

A twitter account on the website has also been created to set up updates. As of Thursday, it already has 40,000 followers. One tweet states that it “Looks like the owls are getting ready to deliver some exciting news.”

...

According to People, her spokesperson has already stated that the big announcement will not be “directly related” to the final film, nor will it mean a new book to the series. Who knows what her big surprise will be? Guess we have six days to speculate and find out.
I hope it's not something stupid, like a new website, a game or anything like that. I wish she would publish something else already.

I'm 95% sure it's the Potter Encyclopedia or as she's been calling it "the Scottish book", but we will have to see.

Oh, I'm excited now! I'm going to assume it's a website, because I don't want to be too disappointed if it's not some new Potter material. ;)

Havent heard her calling it "the Scottish Book" but the encyclopedia is my first guess too. Surprised the Mugglecasters havent thought of it yet.

Just e-book versions of the HP series. Disappointing. Blah.

^Rowling says otherwise.

<object><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/i5DOKOt7ZF4?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/i5DOKOt7ZF4?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

Or maybe not quite, but she did add new material.
For this groundbreaking collaborative project, J.K. Rowling has written extensive new material about the characters, places and objects in the much-loved stories, which will inform, inspire and entertain readers as they journey through the storylines of the books. Pottermore will later incorporate an online shop where people can purchase exclusively the long-awaited Harry Potter eBooks, in partnership with J.K. Rowling’s publishers worldwide, and is ultimately intended to become an online reading experience, extending the relevance of Harry Potter to new generations of readers, while still appealing to existing fans. As the Pottermore Shop develops, it is intended that it should include further products designed specifically for Harry Potter fans, offering a potential outlet for Sony products and services related to Pottermore. In keeping with Harry Potter’s international appeal, the site will launch in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, with more languages to follow.

In the new website, the storyline will be brought to life with sumptuous newly-commissioned illustrations and interactive ‘Moments’ through which you can navigate, starting with the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone. On entering, you choose a magic username and begin your experience. As you move through the chapters, you can read and share exclusive writing from J.K. Rowling, and, just as Harry joins Hogwarts, so can you. You visit Diagon Alley, get sorted into a house, cast spells and mix potions to help your house compete for the House Cup.

At a press conference at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Rowling revealed some key features of the website. In an announcement which will thrill fans, she described how she has brought to life both the Sorting Hat and Ollivanders experiences from her books for the first time on Pottermore, by revealing the questions asked by the Sorting Hat - which places newcomers into their Hogwarts houses according to their characteristics - and the magic behind the Wand Chooser – which finds the right wand for each user from over 33,000 possible combinations. She also revealed glimpses of the new information she has provided on some of the best-loved characters.
It actually seems pretty cool.

I got into Pottermore this morning! I really can't wait for this (even though I haven't received my email confirmation, yet). I think it's going to be quite fun and exciting to go through the world of Harry Potter again.

Well, a Potter website gave out a hint that the clue would be posted between 9 AM and 1 PM BST (so 4 AM to 8 AM EST). So I got up at 4, but the clue didn't come out until 6 AM and it closed at around 7:05 AM, so you'd have missed it for today. Now, I'm not positive, but I would guess that tomorrow's clue would be up at 7 AM (but I'm not one hundred percent, sure).

I got in yesterday afternoon, I was out apartment shopping and randomly checked the site on my phone and found the clue at around 12:30pm central time. I registered and everything over the phone, which was pretty challenging lol. I'm SUPER excited to actually be able to visit the site soon!!!

I received my Welcome email today. I've only played for an hour or two, but I really like it so far. There is lots of background info to many things (Ollivander, Hogwarts Express, the Dursleys), much of which is really quite fascinating. I believe I'm on Chapter 6 and it only goes up to ten, but I'm really looking forward to how all of this pans out come October. It should be (and already is) tons of fun.

My username is PatronusKnight130 for any of those who want to friend me :D

You actually get the whole first book! :) It is a really fun site. But the latter chapters I skipped to discovering the new stuff JK Rowling has written.

^ Yeah, I realized that after the site said I could go past chapter 10

But, yeah, it's totally a fun site. And all of the new information (especially McGonagall's back story) is fantastic. I'm so glad we're getting these little tid bits of info.

I'm sure I've already posted this, but my username is PatronusKnight130, so look me up and we can be friends!

After a few days of messing around with the site my only complaint is that the Beta version gets overcrowded soooooooo frequently! It literally has taken me 4 days to get to the 5th chapter... Other than that, it's a great site and I'm having a lot of fun! I got sorted into Gryffindor tonight!!!!!!!!

If any of you want to add me, I'm GobletSilver166.

Anyone buying this? A full-color illustrated version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone. Apparently, there will also bea Collector's Edition, which Amazon says should be available November, but I read something about it being released in March hereso it may become cheaper then.

Even if the Collector's Edition were to drop in price, I'm not sure I could justify spending so much on a book I already have several versions of when the only substantial difference from the regular version is a pull-out of Diagon Alley. For US, the text is the British version except for Philospher's Stone being changed to Sorcerer's Stone. Not quite as beautiful as the Deluxe Editions I have of OotP, HBP, and DH. I will definitely be getting the regular versions though; I can't wait for OotP to receive this treatment since it has some of the best imagery in the series, imo.

I'm not really sure. I've seen it and it's cool, but I'm moving and have kind of left the HP scene.
