After the May 31′s 100th anniversary launch of Titanic in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Titanic II of Mark Wilkinson sank on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 off the West Bay Harbour in Dorset, according to reports by several international news sites.
The cabin cruiser, measuring about 16-foot (4.8 meters) long, is on its maiden voyage when the mishap occurred.
When asked by local media about his Titanic II experience, Wilkinson said that, “If it wasn’t for the harbourmaster I would have gone down with the Titanic.” He added that it was “a bit embarrassing and I got pretty fed up with people asking me if I had hit an iceberg.”
Wilkinson, reportedly in his 40′s, is a resident of Birmingham and is out for his first voyage with Titanic II. He came from a fishing trip, but encountered problems with the boat upon entering the harbour. Wilkinson was forced to hang on to the rail of the ship as he waited for rescuers.
