There is an annual Disney marketing meeting being held in Taipei at the moment and the new 2012 marketing plan for Disney BD/DVD was annouced. The interesting part is

March 2012 - Cinderella BD / DVD and 3D BD (Possible theatrical
release)

October 2012 - The Little Mermaid BD / DVD (sadly no 3D)

Other titles of interest - Monster University , Brave

I hope they stick with this plan, as I can't wait for The Little mermaid !!!!!

They'll probably release a 3D version a year later, cause you know, they want us to double-dip.

What about Lady and the Tramp?

I'd rather wait one year and just have LATT and Cinderella in 2012.

It would frak up the entire Diamond line if they would do that.

To the OP, do you have any source or proof? How do you know this?

Can't wait fot The Little Mermaid and Cinderella! Both were already OOP when I started to collect the classics :) Do you guys think that there's gonna be a DVD 'only' version too or only a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack?

Watching the new TLM ride videos on the Micechat board I realized I'm due for a TLM viewing. Haven't watched it for awhile.

They already did when they didn't release the Fantasia's as Diamond Editions in March 2010 like they were supposed to do via the booklet in the Snow White DE.

Bottom line is that they can do whatever they want with their releases, but I think it's becoming increasingly more obvious that Disney is not as attentive to these Diamond Editions than they were to the Platinums. Between some of them receiving 3D treatments to others only receiving single BD discs, it seems to me the only thing separating them from any other Disney releases is the Diamond Edition banner.

It is obvious that my source is involved in the said meeting. However, it is an internal meeting and I was informed by this source. So you know it's not possible to say further. Just have fun discussing it for now and see when the new line up is announced to the public.

Personally I can't wait for The Little Mermaid, so I am happy and it looks like Disney is looking for a way to come up with rerereleasing all their titles all over again. Or they figure a year is too long to release a classic.

A year? I thought it was supposed to be 7 years. Anyhow I hope they maintain the vault thing, I don't want the value of my collection, and the films themselves to decrease for short term profit.

I meant a year per major Diamond title. Perhaps Diamond edition will continue, but just 2 major one per year. They could even squeeze Aladdin or Mulan in the line up as well.

March and October sounds great for Diamond edition release.

I don't really understand how this is much different from what the release schedule already was. They were going to follow the same relative pattern as the Platinum Editions, and having a Diamond in March and October is doing that. Am I missing something here?

Oic. Thanks for clearing that up. Anyhow I think the only reason it was one DE in 2009/2010 was because they messed up Fantasia and decided to release it as a SE in the end. I think the intent was always 2DE/year.

Anyhow, seeing as TLM only went OOP in 2009, I think 2012 is still too soon. Sure I'll enjoy it, but I'll enjoy LatT more.

I'm gonna be upset if LATT won't be released on Blu next year.

So...how's that gonna be then for the rest of the DE?

2012. Cinderella & TLM
2013. Peter Pan? & TJB
2014. Pinocchio & SB

?

The March release is usually a minor title and October is a major one, while there are also other titles being released through out the year, but none receive huge promotion like October release. The initial plan was to have Cinderella as an October 2012 release, while TLM would receive similar treatment in October 2013.

My source does not have any knowledge after 2012 since anything could change. But rest assure The Lady and a Tramp will be released around mid 2011. My source forgot the exact date but saw it on there.

To be honest I would like to see TLM 3D on screen. I am disappointed, but could not wait for Cinderella 3D !

Haha. Sorry to burst your bubble but I don't believe this Cinderella 3D stuff for a second. First of all, Cinderella isn't a CAPS film. Converting it would be exhausting and take a good year and a half to two years to convert. Second, it has nothing epic in it at all to even warrant a 3D release. I'm sorry, but the only way is if Disney decides to starts release every diamond title in 3D, which I highly doubt because it is a huge investment that they will probably never see a return on. I'm going to call this bull.

If this happened, 2012 would officially be the best year of my life! TLM, graduation, a job and out of my parent's house all at once? I'd probably die of happiness. It must be tied to me, considering it came out the same year as my high school graduation, too. 'tis fate! It is the Year of the Dragon (my sign) after all. rotfl

Anyway, I always thought L&tT came out the same year as Mermaid in the Platinum line? What came out in March with Mermaid in 2007?

Is 101 Dalmations being included in the DEs?

Thank you for all your kind words. I wasn't sure whether I should say anything since, as some of you suggest it sounds like a bull. Anyway the board is open for discussion, so until we have formal announcement then let's discuss.

The meeting will be over soon and once everything is done, I'll ask my source for more details. Thanks for your anticipation.
