Do You Watch DVDs On HDTV?

I was wondering if I was the only one who can't stand the [relatively] blurry picture of a DVD on HDTV. I like my movies crisp and sharp and I'd rather watch it on my non-HD 24" flatscreen than my 32" HDTV.
I'm assuming casual viewers wouldn't mind/care about the quality but movie buffs like us is another thing
Opinions anyone?

I think it depends on the movie. There are some pretty crisp-looking DVDs out there and I sometimes watch them on my 47" lcd. there are also horrible ones that look very bad either upscaled or in general. There's also the player to take into consideration, because it does the upscaling.

I have never had a "blurry" picture with a standard DVD on my Blu-ray player through either my Home Theater or my 55" LG HDTV. There might something wrong with your player, or the compatibility settings might be wrong. I would check it out.
I can watch classic old black and white westerns from the 40's and they look just as sharp as the movies that I buy today on Blu-ray!!!
I would have my player checked out. Get the instruction booklet out and make sure you have followed all the instructions for setting up your Blu-ray player for your television.

I think it would also depend on the upscaler in your player and whether the played is connected via SD or HD cables to the TV. Can't say I have any problems with normal DVDs through my Blu-Ray played to Sony Bravia.

Yes, exactly. You need to be using HDMI hookups between your Blu-ray player and your television, otherwise you aren't getting the full 1080p experience out of your Blu-ray movies and your standard DVD's won't look much better. Check with your instruction manual and follow those directions to the letter. If it says HDMI cables, and you don't have any, go get some, you will definiitely notice a difference in picture and sound.

I'm sure that when I write how I really feel about people who complain about "blurry" images when you play a goddamn dvd on a goddamn High-Definition tv, I'll be banned immediately.

We got a nice HDTV back in February, and seeing the pictures for myself I can now understand how people may complain over DVD's looking "fuzzy." But it's likely due to the connections and settings.
When we first hooked everything up, HDMI cable and all, DVD's looked scary. Like how a jpeg looks when it's expanded larger than it's supposed to be, not just fuzzy, but with artifacts. And Blu-rays themselves were so sharp and crisp that the picture actually hurt my eyes!
It wasn't until I tried to watch a traditionally animated feature on Blu-ray that I realized our TV was in need of major adjusting. The line art of the characters were surrounded by a white haze! After some fiddling around, I discovered the main issue was that the factory setting for the sharpness was way too high. Once I adjusted that, the Blu-rays looked amazing (and were pain-free on my eyes!) and the DVD's looked pretty damn good too.

I do notice the quality difference but it's not enough of a distraction to complain profusely.

On the other hand, the increased quality of the Bu-rays are enough incentive for me to want to eventually upgrade all of my favorite films (mostly Disney

).

Huh, I've noticed the blurriness myself, but I always chalked it up to the medium rather than the TV or the player.
