Which Disney Characters Do You HATE and Which Do You LOVE?

I hate all the characters in 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' portion of The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr Toad except for the Headless Horseman.

Ichabod Crane is a gold-digging, crude and totally detestable idiot, Katrina Van Tassel is a nasty and manipulative bimbo, and Brom Bones is a thuggish, arrogant bully. The other villagers seemed cruel when they were scaring Ichabod, even though he deserved it.

I also hate Peter Pan to a lesser extent, as he was a cocky fool and lacked any redeeming qualities (I was rooting for Captain Hook); finally, I hate Professor Tetti-Tatti, the murderous operatic impressario who killed Willie the Whale. :x What makes me hate him is that he wasn't portrayed as a villain, just an ignorant, well-meaning innocent.

However, I LOVE Mickey Mouse (what's not to love?), Donald Duck (funniest Disney character ever), Goofy, Pluto, Oswald, Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs, Jiminy Cricket, Geppetto, Figaro, Mrs Jumbo, Jumbo Junior, the Stork, Timothy Mouse, Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad McQuack, Jose Carioca, Panchito Pistoles, Willie the Whale, Cinderella, Jaq, Gus, the Grand Duke, the White Rabbit, Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, Baloo, Bernard, Bianca, Dawson, Belle, Simba, Aladdin, Hercules and virtually all the Pixar characters. :)

You'd have to hate the Headless Horseman too because apparently he's Brom in disguise. :D

I need to compile my own hate and love lists. I can say my love list will be awfully long.

I've heard that theory before, but I don't believe it. Where would he get the red-eyed demonic horse from?

He imported it from Frollo. Just kidding.

The Headless Horseman just happens to chase Ichabod the same night Ichabod heard Brom's story. Brom tends to do things on his own and is not interested in other men in the town helping him. Any other man who heard Brom's story and tried to scare Ichabod with being the Headless Horseman would likely be backed by his buddies in scary costumes.

The one I hate most of all is Louis the Failigator (copyright Super Aurora) from Princess and the Frog. He's way too loud, obnoxious, unfunny and adds nothing to the story. I also hate all characters from Aristocats except for O'Malley and his pals. Especially the geese get on my nerves.

Others I dislike include the gargoyles from Hunchback of Notre Dame (not because they play the comedic role, but because designs and characters are so unimaginative); Timon & Pumbaa (childish); Tantor and Tuk from Tarzan (again: unimaginative; personifications of character traits rather than *real*, fully developed characters); Cody (no personality, no emotions), Wilbur (bad replacement for Orville) and Jake (only there to propell unneccesary, predictable love-triangle that never leads to anything) in Rescuers Down Under. Aurora also fails to hold my interest, because we're not given anything in her personality to root for her. I also couldn't care less for her prince or that of Snow White and Cinderella.

However, I completely love Ariel, because she's a strong character with clear motivations, determination and will-power, and her quest is the most emotionally driven of all Disney heroines, so that really touches a nerve.

I also really like Rapunzel and Snow White (cute, sweet and wholesome beyond description); Penny from The Rescuers (heart-breaking plight); Flynn Rider from Rapunzel (loveable anti-hero); Basil from Great Mouse Detective (grumpy, arrogant, ego-centric but still sympathetic, especially because of his subtle change of heart at the end); Mad Madam Mim from Sword in the Stone (because she's delightfully mad); all the characters in Robin Hood, especially Sir Hiss, Prince John and the Sheriff (they're hilarious; possibly the funniest characters ever done by Disney).

The only character I can think of that I really can't stand is the evil brother lion dude from Lion King 2. Sorry, I forget his name. :p His voice, design, and actions just irritate me, almost to the point of making me uncomfortable. I'm not sure if I was supposed to feel any sympathy when he died but I was just happy I wouldn't have to deal with him on-screen any longer.

As for favorites, I think I've got far too many to name but Darkwing would be near the top. :D

Hate

The geese from Aristocats. I actually fast forward their segment, I can not stand them. The gargoyles. They detract from the film, and are ridiculously annoying and unfunny. Louis the Alligator. Again, adds nothing to the story, he just grates on my nerves. Mushu. Without him, Mulan would be absolutely perfect.

Love
Oh, there are so many. First of all, Frollo. Best Disney villain ever. I love Quasimodo- he is so sympathetic, but still holds my respect; All the human characters from Lilo and Stitch + Stitch, every single one of them are likeable and wonderful. Ariel. She is so much fun, and I love her determination; Mulan. I love this character so much, she is well developed, and really connects with the audience; Penny. Seriously, how can you not love her?; Dodger. Not only because Billy Joel was fabulous as him, but because this character is fun and compassionate. I also enjoy Wart, Merlin, Madame Mim, Rapunzel, Flynn, Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo, Jasmine, Aladdin, Robin Hood, Prince John, Esmeralda, Scar, Pascal, the Coachman, Kida, Belle, Cinderella,Sprite from Fantasia 2000 .... I could go on and on.

EDIT: I thought of more characters.

Regarding the characters in Legend of Sleepy Hollow, I wasn't bothered by how most of the characters were selfish and after their own thing. I think that was part of the intention and even how Irving wrote the story. Considering that Disney made characters like Pinocchio and Quasimodo into more sympathetic characters, that is pretty impressive that they retained the greedy aspects of Ichabod's character (unlike the Tim Burton version).

Anyway,

Hate:
Rutt and Tuke. God! I just really really hate these characters! Most of the characters in Brother Bear were annoying, but these were just...Why are they even in this movie?
The gargoyles were kind of on the annoying side too but I don't think they're as bad as people say they are.
Zini (from Dinosaur) I don't really mind so much the whole dinosaurs talking since most of the voice-acting was pretty decent, but this character just shouldn't have been there. He really didn't serve any purpose outside of just being an annoying comic relief character. Maybe if he was made less annoying and given more of a friendship story with Aladar, I would've been fine with it. But nope! He just got thrown in because even in different types of movies Disney needed to add a sidekick.
Syndrome. What is with the hype for this character? He wasn't scary or funny. He was probably the most pathetic excuse for a villain ever. Heck he makes even Prince John look intimidating.
Also not too keen on Minnie Mouse. Hate on me all you want. But even as a kid. I wasn't a fan.
BEN: I like Martin Short, and some of his schtick does work here. But it just felt phoned in.

Love:
Spring Sprite: most underrated Disney heroine ever! But at least she's getting some recognition with her bit being at the Wonderful World of COlor Attraction.
Jiminy: By turns good-natured and cynical. Gotta love a character like that.
Donald, Quasimodo, Gurgi (yes. I like the character), Roger Rabbit, Jack Skellington, Rapunzel, Shere Kahn, Kaa, Frollo, Maleficent, Jafar, Sally, Zero, Honest John, Jack Sparrow, all the characters in the original Alice in Wonderland, Genie, Pascal, Woody, Flik, Goofy, Pluto, Pete, Captain Hook, Hades and many others.

Your replies have given me more ideas of which characters I love and hate.

I don't hate all of the gargoyles, just the fat one who fell in love with Esmeralda's goat. :x If he wasn't in the movie, the gargoyle scenes would be more bearable for me, but as someone said, their designs weren't creative at alll; to me, they seemed like they'd been thrown in at the last minute to balance out all the dark things in the movie (the opening, Frollo, 'Hellfire', the Court of Miracles, the climax, etc.)

I forgot how many villains I love. I love (or rather, love to hate) the Wicked Queen, the Coachman, Chernabog, Lady Tremaine, the Queen of Hearts, Captain Hook, Maleficent, Cruella DeVil, Madam Mim, Shere Khan, Kaa, Ratigan, Ursula, Gaston, Jafar, Scar, Frollo, Hades and Shan-Yu.

However, I hate a lot of villains such as Aunt Sarah/Si & Am/the Rat in Lady and the Tramp, Amos Slade and Clayton, but more than anyone else I hate the numerous villains in Dumbo: the elephants, the clowns, the bratty boy and the Ringmaster. Although, I was probably meant to hate them.

That's actually was the case. Initially There were no gargoyles, but the exec felt it was too dark and that there wasn't anything in film to make marketable merchandise off for kids to buy. So they inserted the gargoyles in as the comic relief.

(I had had the lists a while ago, but I like to give some explanation in the Discussion-side of the board, so that's why I'm late.)

Kind of a repeat of the celebrity threads, but I usually have shorter “hate” lists than “like” lists, so…

Hate: Jasmine, Vicky, Faline, Peter Pan, BEN, Remy

The first four mostly have to do with annoying/bland/sexist personalities. Jasmine is a very one-dimensional character to me and she would almost seem harmless, except that she’s so heavily sexualized. That in itself doesn’t bother me, except the fact that she’s made into a bit of an exotic foreigner stereotype--she’s hot because she’s not the norm. That said, her voice is also annoying to me--with that kind of fake baby voice that’s unfortunately caught on, that a lot of women seem to put on for, I guess, to attract men (I’m not sure what other reason there is to speak like that…?). In a lot of ways, she is a very very poor repeat of Ariel. She basically has the same motivation--with maybe a little more reason, since she’s never even left the palace before--but her father is extremely kindly and would--and does--bend to her will very easily. I dunno. Sometimes she doesn’t bother me if I ignore the connotations; otherwise she’s an innocent but bland character.

Vicky and Faline are basically just baby-makers. Though Vicky is just annoying as f-. She treats Tod like crap and expects him to apologize because she’s pretty (Bianca always bothered me for similar reasons, as if she thinks she’s better than Bernard, but she doesn’t quite bother me enough to say I hate her). The reasons for hating PP are obvious, so I won’t go into that.

The rest are just annoying (for me). BEN and Remy owe a lot of their annoying-factor to their voice actors. The voices have a lot to do with how I react to characters actually--Esmeralda is another one that I couldn’t warm up to as much as I might have because of the voice (Anastasia’s another, non-Disney).

Love: Ursula, Lady Tremaine, Tiana, Ariel, the Beast, Cogsworth, Cinderella, Rabbit, Megara, Hercules, Anton Ego, Edna Mode, Elastigirl, Geppetto, Merryweather, Merlin, Lady Cluck, Cruella, Pongo, Basil

I usually like the characters who most entertain me, or who I identify with (usually both). Ursula, Tremaine, Tiana, Beast, and Megara are complex characters (imo) that I love to watch. Others, like Merlin, Cogsworth, Cruella, Basil, Merryweather, Lady Cluck (Robin Hood), Edna, and Cruella are just hilarious to me. The others I either identify with (Ariel, Rabbit--because I‘m sometimes a cynical recluse  --Megara), I admire (Cinderella, Pongo, Elastigirl), or who represent qualities I like/aspire to maintain--like Geppetto and Hercules, who are both sweet/kind and somewhat innocent characters. I like to find that balance between cynicism and naivete. Geppetto is also the type of father I hope to be (and wish I had), except maybe better capable to help my child from a whale if necessary.

Wow, I have to step in here to say I disagree. But you didn't expect no less, did you? ;)

I can't see how you could watch The Rescuers and come to that conclusion. From the very start of the movie, she's the only one who sees the potential in Bernard. She has all these veteran diplomats to choose from to accompany her on her mission, yet she chooses the janitor! She never treats Bernard badly because of the difference in ranks; she never bosses him around; never demands anything from him because she 'outranks' him. What she's doing, is encouraging Bernard to find his inner hero. And they eventually become a couple. So I'm a bit at loss as to why you think of Bianca that way.

I haven't watched the film in forever, and I've never watched it enough to remember scenes/moments right off like other movies. But to try and explain: I've always been very iffy about Bianca. Obviously, there's the fact that she treats Bernard more kind at the meeting better than anyone else there, but I guess it's just subtle things that bothered me. Like how she would laugh at him sometimes. I get that maybe it's a weird flirtation, and ultimately innocent, but it always came across somewhat condescending to me--"Oh, you silly man, you!" sort of. "You'd be lost without me!"

Besides her interactions with Bernard, I like her (which is the reason why she didn't end up in my "hate" list).
