For a while now, the Disney Company has only been re-releasing their most famous films, and besides the Diamond Editions, the only old DACs that have been released on Blu-Ray that I can think of are Fantasia, Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland.

A lot of Disney films are not known by the modern generation of children, and the cause of this is just stupid: the Company just keeps releasing their most famous and best-selling titles over and over and over again, whilst quietly shoving films like the Sword in the Stone and the package films under the rug. It's a shame, because every single Disney film I've ever seen (well, maybe except Chicken Little) has something good about it, and it's a shame that a lot of great Disney films, often from the Dark Age period between 1967 and 1988, are just ignored.

So...what Disney films do you want to see on blu-ray? Personally, I'd like to see Hercules due to its colourful and inventive visuals being perfect for blu-ray as well as some live-action films like Bedknobs & Broomsticks, as well as many of the underrated Disney films.

Definitely Hunchback, this movie just screams for HD! can you imagine the Topsy Turvy sequence on Bluray? or when Quasi saves Esmeralda from the flames? that scene is almost 3D already!!

I agree; Hunchback on blu-ray would be spectacular! Along with the Topsy-Turvy sequence and the scene where Quasi rescues Esmeralda, I'd love to see Frollo's chilling 'Hellfire' in high definition.

I think you're a bit overreacting. Only the best known titles go back into the vault, so the DVDs of titles like Sword in the Stone are still widely available, as opposed to The Lion King.

Of course they keep re-releasing their most famous movies, because those make more money. Disney was incredibly slow with releasing DVDs as well, Snow White wasn't released until 2001, four years into the format. And eventually, all of the titles were released on DVD. The same thing will happen with Blu-ray, but you might have to wait a while.

Just to start for initial waves (and aside from the inevitable animated feature titles), I think these evergreen Walt Disney live-action classics would benefit from full Blu-Ray remastering in high definition (not just upconversions from DVD masters):

Mary Poppins
Song of the South
Swiss Family Robinson
Pollyanna
The Parent Trap!
Darby O'Gill and the Little People
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Old Yeller
Treasure Island
Babes in Toyland
The Three Lives of Thomasina
The Moon-Spinners
Summer Magic
In Search of the Castaways
That Darn Cat!
The Absent-Minded Professor/Son of Flubber
The Shaggy Dog
The Story of Robin Hood (if fully restored from original elements)
Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow
The Happiest Millionaire
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
The Love Bug

...And for animated features outside the major classics:

The Three Caballeros/Saludos Amigos (uncut, unaltered)
Make Mine Music/Fun and Fancy Free/Melody Time (uncut, unaltered)
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

My wishlist includes: The Rescuers, The Great Mouse Detective, Hercules, and Tarzan. I think any of the 90's films are going to be spectacular on Blu-ray, so I am really looking forward to them.

From Pixar, it's Finding Nemo by default, as it's the only one they haven't released yet.

Additionally, I'd like to see Disney release these Studio Ghibli titles on Blu-ray eventually: My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, and Spirited Away. I've only seen about half of the Ghibli titles, so that list will probably expand in the future! Actually, I think I've pretty much dedicated myself to getting every Studio Ghibli title on Blu-ray, because I've liked them all so far!

Believe it or not, we're actually still waiting for many of Walt's titles to be released on DVD for the first time (especially from the TV and foreign theatrical libraries). Not to mention better remastering on many titles...

Frankenollie was talking about the animated features, and I was too. You can count on all of the animated "Classics" to be eventually released on Blu-ray. Since television series (especially those that are older) are already not that great, even on DVD, I doubt we will see many of them on Blu-ray .

All of the animated features, including the package films, plus Swiss Family Robinson, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Treasure Island.

I pretty much want them all.

But I'd like to see certain titles sooner rather than later, like . . .

101 Dalmatians
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
The Little Mermaid
The Great Mouse Detective
Pocahontas
Aladdin

Though I concur we are unlikely to see minor live-action or TV titles on Blu-Ray (hard enough to get them all on DVD), I should think the major live-action classics (especially widescreen, action-adventures and musicals) will come to Blu eventually. Hope so! : )

I read that 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Mary Poppins are currently being prepped for a new master (I wouldn't call it restoration, since I doubt that those movies are in any real danger). However, since they're planning to recombine all of the special effects shots in Mary Poppins digitally, it might take a while.

It might have been Bill Hunt or Jeff Kleist at the Digital Bits, I don't quite remember. Anyway, it's not a surprise. Those two are arguably two of the most famous live-action movies Walt Disney produced.

And for the technical folks here, they also said that Disney is trying to get the so-called CinemaScope "mumps" (the distortion that makes people look fatter because of the lens used) disappear from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Now I know it's technically an imperfection, but I see it as a revisionist thing Disney doesn't have to touch. But frankly, I feel the same way with the recombining of the drawings with live-action on Mary Poppins.

Let's not forget we're already getting the Fox and the Hound.

I want all Disney Animation Classic release but specially from "The Little Mermaid" to "Lilo and Stitch".
