As much as I love Blu Ray and eager to watch HD restorations of the classics, I sometimes go back to simpler times and pop in one of my Laserdiscs, or god forbid, even a VHS.

I love going back to the natural, less vibrant look and appreciate how the film looked back in theaters with that white dust (is that how you call it?)

Yes, there's nothing like HD but thought I'd ask to know if I'm alone on this...

Watching a Laserdisc always seemed like a chore to me. The necessity to flip over/change a disc multiple times is not something I'd enjoy very much. The plethora of bonus features, however, that would be different.

I'd also like to say that a truly good Blu-ray should replicate the theatrical experience at its best. So no wear and tear, specks and the movie out of focus, but a proper image, that yields all the grain and actually looks like film. For what it's worth, I actually enjoy a properly restored movie more than a recent movie that exists entirely in the digital realm. Watching titles like The Wizard of Oz, The Red Shoes, or The Ten Commandments on Blu-ray is pretty close to watching an excellent print of it, I'd imagine.

I still watch a VHS from time to time. I have all of the Disney Animated Classics up to Home on the Range on VHS, except for Saludos Amigos. Most of these were bought from my local thrift store when I started getting back into Disney. I'd skipped out on all the DVD releases, so if I want to watch a classic that isn't available on Blu-ray, my only choice for the time being is VHS!

As I've upgraded titles to Blu-ray, I've slowly been re-donating the corresponding VHS tapes back to the thrift store.

I sadly threw most of my laserdiscs away, but I kept all the covers for the artwork. I had all the Disney classics and many musicals. I did keep my Japanese import of Song of the South! But my LD player is packed away. My VHS player died last year. I threw away all my tapes. I only kept my 200 volumes of Dark Shadows!

While I do watch my VHS' on occasion, it's usually only because I don't have the film on DVD or Blu-ray. And my VHS' are also really worn out, so there are parts of the films that no longer play correctly.

I've never known anyone who owned a Laserdisc player to begin with....

I don't even think I've ever seen a Laserdisc, would anybody be kind enough to post pictures of their collection? It would be interesting to look at the cover art for those.

Laserdisc? VHS? How about Capacitance Electronic Disc (CED)! We had one of those when I was a kid and watched a bunch of disney movies on it, including Robin Hood as I remember.

I've never owned a LaserDisc player. I think my parents said they once had a BetaMax player.

My college library has a book sale once a quarter. Last quarter they had a huge collection of LaserDiscs on sale such as "Apocalypse Now" and several Kubrick classics.

Ebay sellers are asking $100 bucks (if you count in shipping)

Laserdisc honestly passed me up. By the time I even knew what they were, I was well into my DVD collection. But from what I've read, it sounds like Disney treated that format with more respect then even DVD or Blu Ray!
