Remember the plot of Roger Rabbit in which Judge Doom wanted to build a freeway and remove the Pacific Electric red cars to make people drive it? Well it was based on a real life conspiracy to kill streetcar systems across the US. I hate cars they are deathtraps. The interstates are racetracks to me. Too many wrecks and too many people die on the roads every years.

I always thought that plot-line in Roger Rabbit was too far-fetched, even for that kind of a movie, until I learned about this last year. It made me appreciate it even more.

One of the many trends of the baby boomer era was the expansion of freeways and automobiles in accommodation of growing suburban lifestyle, which unfortunately came at the cost of the urban landscape. The current planning trends are working to scale back on auto dependency in urban areas.
