CINDERELLA with two step-mothers? Bambi with two dads?
According to one of Disney's veteran animators, the idea isn't as far-fetched as you might think.
Andreas Deja, who is gay and has worked on Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King, said Disney was open to the idea of making a family movie featuring gay characters.

I actually didn't know Andreas Deja was in fact gay, let alone the fact that Disney would be more than WILLING to do a family movie with a gay couple.

I didn't knew that either. But I'm glad that he's open for the idea, though.

Wasn't Hugo openly gay for Esmerelda's goat?
also...one of the most flaming cartoon characters ever to be in existence...

That's not really being gay, is it? I have no idea what to call an imaginary stone creature having the hots for a goat, but gay it isn't.
And to be a little bit on topic, I'd love to see it. I'm not gay myself, but a little bit more diversity is never a bad thing. I only wonder how the majority of the audiences will react. There will undoubtedly be a lot of concerned parents over this, unfortunately.

Aw that would be so cute.

Even if they aren't the main characters it would still be great.

I was mostly kidding, but both characters WERE male. And if Hugo is to be dismissed as an imaginary part of Quasimodo's psyche...well then, what does that say about Quasimodo???

Can you imagine Rapunzel going back to Corona with their parents to find a king and king couple?
If Disney ever puts a gay couple in one of their movies, it'll have to be a modern day/future setting, in a fairy tale or a period one would be kinda weird though.

Pretty positive it's both homosexuality and bestiality.

Well, homosexuality, yes. But technically, Hugo's a gargoyle and not a human, so.... yeah.

That number's on the decline though. Conisdering how long it takes to make an animated film (especially since this is really, really early in dvelopment) by the time it does show up there would probably be more acceptance among Disney's current target demo.
One thing's for sure. Japanese school girls will go nuts over it.

Disney could play a JK Rowling and announce a character that already exists is gay. I'm looking at Happy, Flower, The Grand Duke in Cinderella, The White Rabbit... there really could be at least one in every movie.

... or Disney's gayest character ever:

"Timon is a feisty little cheerful fellow," Lane says. "He and Pumbaa seem to have a very nice arrangement--- though I couldn't say what the extent of their relationship is."
~New York Times article (I haven't been able to find the actual article, only references to it)

The article does state that they would look for the right film, which I'm guessing means setting (among other factors), so I doubt we'd see a fairy tale featuring an openly gay character (unless it were set in the present or future, or in a truly far-out fantasy world).

Well, I'm not "offended" exactly, but I would like to remind people that openly gay characters could MORE EASILY fit into a Once Upon a Time scenario than a modern day one because regardless of what one believes politically, religiously or even simply morally, homosexuals have been around since humans came into existence. Many cultures didn't have a problem with them until they were converted to Christianity and such. So no, it doesn't need to be set in some "far out fantasy world" to have a basis in our ancient world.
I think the best time and place to do a gay couple though, would be a story in ancient Greece or Rome, since we already KNOW those cultures had nothing really against two men or two women being together.
