I can't believe they skipped over it in the diamond edition release....do you think that they are saving it for a later date since it was in print for SO long? It just seems so weird to me that it was skipped over like so...

I would say we will most likely get it next year to mark the film's 20th anniversary.

Yeah, I don't imagine they'll let next year go by without commemorating the 20th anniversary with a Blu-ray release.

If it gets a release similar to the recent "Alice in Wonderland" it won't really matter that it's not getting a Diamond Edition. If they just do a quality transfer with most of the existing bonus features and add in some substantial new ones, I'll be great with that.

Agreed. The whole dimondplatinumsuperultracollection edition is all just pointless marketing terms. its either going to be a great release or not. you can have a dimond edition fall short, and you have a normal edition turn out better than a lot of dimond editions. Aladdin needs no resoration, we've seen in air on tv in HD, it looks great already. just slap it on a disc and it'll be great. the dvd extras, while not HD are already very good. Any other extras they may add would be great too, but its fine as is.

I think Aladdin will be re-released next year for it's 20th Anniversary. I also have a feeling its going to get a 3D treatment like the other two "renaissance" era films that are coming to Blu-ray this year (BatB and TLK). I remember reading a post from a fellow forum member who said they had seen the magic carpet ride scene in 3D at a Disney showcase and that it looked awesome. I would love to see that for myself.

I think there's the possibility that we could get a new release this November or so (kind of like the Fantasia/2000 release). I mostly say that due to the lack of a "Princess Movie" this year. If not Aladdin, I feel like we might get Pocahontas. Granted this is all my speculation, but if Aladdin were to be released late this year Disney could still call it a 20th Anniversary Edition.

I agree. The extras on the Platinum were very comprehensive, and the transfer doesn't look to need much work in order to make a good Blu-ray release. I'm thinking next year.

When do I think we'll get Disney's Aladdin on Blu ray?
Possibly in 1001 Arabian Nights from now give or take a few

well, perhaps that's the date 'Dumbo' is actually coming out, in an "oldie but goodie Fantasia like" late fall line. However, I agree, they could release a 20th Anniversary edition for Aladdin by the end of this year already..
We also NEED a 15th anniversary edition for 'Hercules' next year

(yay! am I old?)

I've been asking this myself lately and after hearing Disney's Aladdin is going to be 20 years old I for myself have to answer yes......it's a scary thought

Who's old?

by Disney's Divinity
Yeah, I always remember my age by these movies.
Mermaid and I are practically the same age.

It'll be weird when we're both 60-70.
Anyway, I'm sure that
Aladdin will get a pretty good release regardless of whether it's in the line. Still, the fact that it isn't considered a "Diamond" is a bit of a jab.

Me and Beauty and the Beast are nearly the same age! I felt old once I saw the 10th Anniversary of Pocahontas DVD

I would expect a 20th Anniversary Edition as well; it has been listed in some places as a 2012 lock-in. I'd expect it to be the support catalogue title for
Lady and the Tramp next March (just how
Alice in Wonderland has been for
Bambi).

Aladdin was actually a milestone for me . . . it was the very first Disney film I was able to drive to!
. . .
Woah. That must mean I have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. *pulls out a walker*

Or you just drove a car at an irresponsibly young age

.
Aladdin was actually the first movie I more or less remember going to see in a movie theater. Beauty and the Beast was the first, but I was three years old then.

a blu-ray transfer would still have to have some work. as no release version of a film is in the same format as the Master.
Anyway, I'm old. I was a full 2 years in when Aladdin came out and I'm already using a cane!
