Hi, and welcome back to the 2011 DVDizzy.com Movie & Media Awards! Many of you submitted nominations via the message board and email, which were tabulated and resulted in the finalists below. Of the nominees that follow, one in each category will be elected by you, the DVDizzy community, as a winner.

This year, for the first time ever, we will conduct voting via electronic ballot! This should make voting much more fun and easier for you, and will also speed up the vote counting process considerably. No more copying & pasting! The only requirement is that you be a registered forum member here at DVDizzy.com.

Voting will remain open until 11:59pm (Eastern Time) on Tuesday, March 1. Any attempts to submit a ballot after that time will be void, and may result in all of your previous votes being disqualified.

A thread for assigning presenters in the awards ceremony will be started soon. Voting for the Movie awards will begin soon. Once both the Media and Movie voting rounds have ended, both will be presented together in one epic ceremony here on the forum!

The number of nominees in a given category was determined by the number of nominations submitted for that category, so that each category came as close to the preferred number of five nominees per category as possible. Results of zero to two nominees were avoided wherever possible. In the event that a single category produced more than eight qualifying finalists, the finalists with the least support among nominees other categories were eliminated until there were eight or less finalists remaining in that category (in genre-specific categories, preference was first given to support among other nominees in other categories within that same genre, and then to support in other categories). Ineligible nominations were disqualified in accordance with the nomination rules.

How can Jane Lynch be nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for the same role on the same show?

It things like this that make this list have little or no crediblity with the awards it hands out.

It is up to the nominators to decide which category(-ies) an actor or actress is best suited for. Our rules specifically allow this very scenario with the intention of enabling the nominators to recognize talents and titles without the burdensome constraints of excessive regulations. That we have rules in place that respect the discretion and judgment of our nominators, and that we then produce nominees in strict adherence to those minimalist rules, should only make the awards more credible in the eyes of any reasonable participant.

I should also point out that you are incorrect in stating that Jane Lynch was nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. In fact, she was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Comedy Series as well as Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series.* There is significance in the fact that one is genre-specific and the other is not. The nominators might have very reasonably believed that Lynch is a supporting television talent but one of the leaders in television comedy.

Rather than taking the time to correctly analyze the nominees as posted, however, you decided to single out one nominee so that you could make a quick post that serves little purpose other than to demean the hard work of others and a process that many in this community have enjoyed for years. This is an all too common problem in your posts on this message board.


*Lynch was also nominated for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series, a fact you failed to take note of. This may very well reflect the nominators' belief that "Glee" and its performances are defined by both comedic and dramatic tones.

I guess it's like in real life though. Some people'd rather complain than do anything.

As more votes come in, the number of potential ties is reduced. I think ties are always somewhat anti-climactic, so I definitely think this is a good thing. So please consider voting if you haven't already!
