Helen O'Hara, EMPIRE Magazine wrote:Tangled, out this week*, marks the 50th Disney animated feature, in a line stretching back to 1937. The half-century of animated efforts include some nailed-on classics – Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book – and some rather more obscure efforts – Make Mine Music, anyone? Anyone? But the story on the studio’s rise and fall and rise and fall and rise again is a fascinating one, and we have the full story here…
*UK release date was Jan. 28.

I thought this article headlining Disney's 50 Animated Features was comprehensive and interesting, so I wanted to share with other animation nerds. 8) The long 50-paged review is worth the effort if only for the trivia, production art and behind-the-scenes stuff that I'd never read/seen before. I did find a few slip-ups (the picture used for 50's Cinderella is really from A Twist In Time), but hey, it's still one good overview outside of the House of Mouse.

Yes, they are.

I'm unsure of the names of the first two shorts, but the Heart picture and Penguins are both from the same short if I recall. The last one is Tillie Tiger and Elmer Elephant from the short "Elmer Elephant" which can be found on the Dumbo Big-Top dvd and WDT: Disney Rarities (I think). Also, the tree one is obviously from "Flowers and the Trees"

:)

Also, great link SS :)

The penguin/heart shape sig pictures are from the 1934 Silly Symphony short "Peculiar Penguins".

Yes, they are.

Silly Symphonies from left to right:
1930 - Monkey Melodies
1932 - Flowers and Trees
1934 - Peculiar Penguins
(Panels 3 & 4 are from Penguins.)
1936 - Elmer Elephant

My avatar and quote are from Johnnie Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnet a short featured in the 1946 package film Make Mine Music.

Thanks Chernabog_Rocks and RIPJoeRanft for helping out!

This was interesting. Dumbo at number one instead of the usual two [The Lion King or Beauty and The Beast!].
