Do you think Mother Gothel will become a popular villain for Disney? Dr. Facilier is already really popular and I've sen him as a character in Disney but what about Mother Gothel? Can you see her hanging out with Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Ursula, Cruella and the Queen of Hearts? Or do you think she won't be an advertised villain.

I hope so, I LOVE her. "Mother knows best" was the one of the best villain songs ever. Her look may not be iconically evil enough to become classic, but that's exactly why I loved her.

ignoring the start of the film, gothel looks like a nice, nuturing maternal type... until the opens her mouth, lol. i loved her sarcasm and how caustic she was. i dont know if she will become as iconic as the villains of the past, but i hope so!

I hate to interrupt the party and pretend to be a mod when I'm not, but...

Hopefully, however, Gothel will remain popular.
Tangled has been doing well anyway, so hopefully any of the main characters from that movie other than Rapunzel will be remembered for a long time.

Haha sorry I wasn't thinking

And I think Mother Gothel will become popular. I mean the film has been doing so well and she is such a complex villain and Disney's villainesses are generally more popular than their male counterparts. Plus I think her look goes very well with The Evil Queen and Maleficent and her wit and sarcasam fits with Ursula and Cruella so I can see her being advertised with them and in villain shows in the future. *knocks on wood*

Only time will tell, but Tangled has been quite a success for Disney and Mother Gothel is one of the best parts about it, so, using my crystal ball, I would lean towards yes....

There's nothing really "iconic" about her so I'm gonna say no

Seeing as how I've only seen Tangled once in theaters, (don't shoot me) I didn't feel a connection with the movie as a whole. I have a feeling that once I buy it and watch it in the comfort of my home my feelings will change. As for Mother Gothel, I do like her but I felt that she didn't really play a huge part in the film and she should've had more. I do think that she will be marketed as a villain the future just because Rapunzel is being marketed so much.

Alot of the older classic villains like the Evil Queen and Maleficent dont play huge roles in their films but they r still iconic and remembered.

It depends on how much Disney wants to market Tangled beyond its theatrical release.
But I think Gothel's chances are very low. Why? Because she is very subtle as a character, and its usually the over the top villains that get to stick around.
Facilier is a great villain and has stuck around because he is an AMAZING showman. He dresses well, his act unforgettable and has a catchy song to boot. Gothel, however, is about subtle emotional manipulation. She doesn't pull any magical threats nor does she make a deal with the devil so to speak. She just kidnapped a baby so she can stay young forever. Evil and selfish, I know, but it is usually the big baddies that tend to stay around for long.
Granted, Lady Tremaine is all about emotional abuse as well, and she has been around for years now.

True but she is the villainess of a princess film and all the princess villainesses are popular. The Evil Queen, Maleficent, Ursula and Lady Tremaine. I think she fits in nicely. Plus the movie is doing so well and everyone I know who has seen the film mentions her as a highlight. Her subtle wickedness contrasts nicely to the over the top evil of past villains. I think and hope Disney is smart enough to recognize her as a good villain and they include her in villain merchandise and shows. I mean if frickin Syndrome and Bruce can be on the 2011 calendar they should definately include Mother Gothel in the villain and Disney Diva lines.

Pretty much this.
As much as I like the film and the characters, Gothel the only one that didn't give me anything to remember by.

Personally I found Facilier to be forgettable and I loved Gothel, so if Facilier is now popular I think Gothel has just as good of a chance.
I think she scares me more because she is so subtle.

Well, Lady Tremaine, Maleficent, and Shere Kahn are (somewhat) subtle villains and look at the success that they've had.
I mean yeah Maleficent was over the top at times but she can be very quiet that when she breaks loose it's quite frightening.

Yep and the Evil Queen in her regular form was very subtle and quiet so I am hoping Mother Gothel breaks into the mold =D

i know Hunchback hasn't received a lot of attention, but since Frollo is being recognized as one of the greats, he's also something of a subtle villain.
Kaa kind of is too.

Yes, he's recognized by the fan community, but he gets really neglected by the Disney Corporation (like the film as a whole).

To be completely honest, no. She kind of reminds me of Medusa that way, in that you enjoy her, but she never really goes the distance (like nearly all the fairy tale villains, Cruella, Frollo, etc.). As far as the Disney merchandise, Frollo and Tremaine have never been advertised as much as the others (as Goliath mentioned). Worse, her design is really boring, tbh. I still like her though.
