Nintendo issues age warning on its 3D games

According to an article I found, Nintendo is putting out a warning for it's upcoming 3DS, saying that"
At a promotional event near Tokyo in January, "we will offer 2Ds alone to children aged six and younger as continuing to watch 3D images for a long time could negatively affect the development of their eyes," Nintendo said.
Nintendo noted that experts say 3D images -- not only those of the Nintendo 3DS but also those in cinemas and on television -- could affect the development of vision in small children.
Is this yet another reason why the 3D trend needs to end?

What do you think?

I suppose the expectation is that somebody could potentially be playing a game for a much longer, more sustained period of time than they would be watching a movie. Whether or not you agree with that is another matter.

Surely it all comes down to parents being responsible though, and limiting the amount of time their kids are playing video games or watching TV.

If you value your sight for the rest of your life, talk to your Opthalmologist and ask him/her about 3-D at home.

In a theater it is a total different thing. At home, your eye doctor will tell you that it is bad for your eyes to have to wear those glasses and have your eyes be subjected to those electronic signals.

3-D is not that big of a deal anyway, and in the theater it is really cool, but I'll be danged if I am going to wear glasses to watch television at home. Besides I value my vision and don't want to have to worry about loss of visual images as the years go by because I wanted to watch 3-D at home.

The good thing about the 3DS is you can turn the 3D feature off. Although I'm not a fan of 3D, I am excited about the 3DSs release. Although if the $250/$300 price turns out to be true I'm waiting awhile before picking one up.

I hope it does not crash and burn like the last 3D "portable" hardware Nintendo released (It probably won't though since you can turn the 3D off as DarthPrime stated).

I am still excited about the 3DS.
