Are Blu-ray Prices due to come down?

I don't know about you but I think Blu-ray prices are due to come down a bit. Don't enough people buy them now? There is an average $10 difference in the SRP's between Blu-ray and DVDs for many films I see there's close to a $10 difference. I think at this point it's a bit ridiculous to be that high. What do you think?

It doesn't matter for me - they'd have to be free at this point. :o

Some of the older titles (like 10+ years old, that are not major films) on Blu Ray already have been going down in price. I guess the really question is, when will Disney start selling their animated films on Blu Ray for $20? Keeping in mind the fact that right now more people still have DVD's and Blu Ray really exist to make the money DVD wasn't anymore, I doubt those prices will drop any time soon. But I could be wrong.

Other factors: economy, NetFlix, and digital downloads, which Disney is set to push more this next year.

I think that you need to shop for what you want on Blu-ray at most 'first week' sales to get the lowest price.

If you don't shop online for your Blu-rays, then getting what you want when they are released during the first week you can find them just a couple of dollars more than the standard DVD.

This week for instance: "Salt" comes out on Blu-ray for $18.95 (at Best Buy, Ultimate Electronics and other B&M stores) while the standard DVD is priced at $15.99.

If you compare prices when shopping and also don't buy everything you want in Blu-ray, just the stuff that uses Blu-ray to the max, you can save a lot of money.

"Fantasia/Fantasia 2000" was a good example. The four-disc, two-movie Blu-ray sold for $22.99 the first week of release against the standard DVD release of $18.99. "Sorcerer's Apprentice" which was released at the same time was only $16.99 for standard DVD and $19.99 on Blu-ray.

I still wait for a couple of days and watch the Used DVD stores to see what pops up. At CD Tradepost they had "Fantasia/Fantasia 2000" on Blu-ray for $15.99 within three days of the release. You just have to shop around.

If you are a gamer, then CD Tradepost is the place to shop for new games for XBox 360, PS3, and Wii. "Grand Turisimo 5" is still in the $60 price range, and yet, if you search the stores in CD Tradepost website, you can get it for as little as $32.99. "Fall Out New Vegas" is $29.99. Everything they sell is guaranteed so you aren't ever stuck with a lame product that doesn't work or play after the first few times.

Spend some time at Coming Soon.net and plan your purchases by looking at each month and seeing what is scheduled for release and plan ahead for your purchases. If you are lucky enough to have a Game Stop or Movie Stop near you, get your name on your wish list for titles you want and you can save a lot of money.

I've read that catalog Blu-ray prices are supposed to drop in early 2011. Also like dvdjunkie said if you buy the first week the Blu-rays are only a few dollars more. Still with sites like Amazon I've found Blu-rays to be very affordable and rarely a lot more than their DVD copies.

I don't buy used, but that is always an option. Make sure you buy from a place with a good return policy and check the discs for scratches/smudges/food/etc... before you leave the store.

Just bought the 2-disc Superbad Blu-Ray for $3. How much exactly do we want these prices to drop?

I think the blu prices are/have dropped a lot over the past year. I can't imagine they would drop much more until a more mainstream medium comes along or DVD's go obsolete. If I remember correctly, all of the recent blu's are being released at the same price (or very close to the same price) as newly released DVD's were before blu started to pick up.

A good blu deal I got the other day was the Inglorious Bastards blu from Target for $12 while the single disc DVD was priced at $10.
