"Burlesque" opens tomorrow, as many of you are aware. So what are your favorite live-action movie musicals? My two favorites are Grease and Chicago.

The Producers and Singin' in the Rain are the first that come to mind.

I have quite a few (in alphabetical order):
Across the Universe
Chicago
Funny Girl
Grease
Hairspray
The Phantom of the Opera
Mamma Mia!
Mary Poppins
Moulin Rouge!
My Fair Lady
Nine
The Phantom of the Opera
Singin' in the Rain
The Sound of Music
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
The Wizard of Oz
You know, just to name a few off the top of my head...
And I am super ready for the planned
Spring Awakening film slated for release next year. They would have to bring back Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, though. It just wouldn't work the best it could without those two amazing actors.

Right now, my all time favorite live action musical is "Singin' in the Rain". Even though I just recently discovered it I was amazed at how well written and staged. The songs are great, the dancing is phenomenal and the story is really well written.
Some of my other favorite musicals include Mary Poppins, The Producers (2005 version), The Band Wagon, The Sound of Music and Funny Face.

Mary Poppins is my number one favorite.
Others include Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof, Singin' in the Rain, The Sound of Music, The King and I, Star!, Thorougly Modern Millie, The Phantom of the Opera, and many more which I can't think of to name right now.

Here's my Top 10 as of today. I ought to see some of these again, as I haven't watched some of them in ages. I'm going to exclude part-animated stuff, though I'll put it in brackets where they would approximately slot in.
1. The Sound of Music
2. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
[[Mary Poppins]]
3. My Fair Lady
4. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
5. The Wizard of Oz
[[Enchanted]]
6. Chicago
7. Labyrinth
[[Bedkobs and Broomsticks]]
8. Moulin Rouge
9. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
10. Oliver!
And as for
Singin' in the Rain...I've never actually seen it.

And my opinion of musicals doesn't change at all from thread to thread about musicals.
I typically only like the horror ones: Little Shop of, Rocky Horror, and the utterly brilliant Cannibal! The Musical. And the spookier (or ultra-colorful) moments from Wizard of Oz. The last time I watched that film, I got quite kicky (and not as in: tapping my feet along with the music, more like: let's move along, folks).

No worries. It's my guilty pleasure too. And when I'm sick, I discovered I like it more than
Grease. I think because I generally prefer Michelle Pfeiffer to Olivia Newton-John. But I prefer John Travolta to Maxwell Caulfield.

Netty, you mean Rocky Horror?

Shouldn't you see Sweeney Todd, then?

No, I mean the semi-sequel Shock Treatment. A much better film (and musical) in my opinion.
It really was ahead of its time. See it now, and its spot on with its critique of instant stardom via reality shows (made at a time when reality shows didn't really exist).
