Rather stupid questions...

What's a LaserDisc? I've read at various posts that they have the Disney Laserdisc version of so-and-so movie, and it comes with lots of features. So is it basically a glorified DVD or is a DVD a glorified LaserDisc?
Could someone post pictures of some LDs, or at least provide a link with more information? I think I've seen one before, but I'm not sure. The one I saw was like a large CD, the size of a record. Is that a laserdisc?
Does Disney produce a smaller amount of laserdiscs of their movies, and sell them to the few people that actually know what they are and watch them? How can you buy a laserdisc from Disney?

Disney dosn't make any Laderdiscs anymore but there's always a bunch of Ld's for sale on Ebay. The last US disney laserdisc was Hercules. Disney also released a few Deluxe boxsets with lots of nice bonus-material.
I had a bit of luck and found Cinderella for $2.50 at a local store that used to sell laserdiscs in the god old days (late 80's to early 90's) Here's a pic of a player and a few discs.

No no, don't worry, it's not a stupid question. There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. LOL. A laserdisc is like a really big DVD. It's like an early DVD.

Yeah they are the early version of the DVD. They were taken off the market a few years back. They were a really nice thing and most people hated to see them go.

The fun part is that the DVDs are superiour in quality to laserdisc, but the true laserdisc fans still miss them
It was as well a lot more expencive and they are not as great to store.

However, at least my LDs are uncensored and unedited by Mr. Eisner!

Is this true, I thought the Lion King collectors box documentary was edited? Was there not some Jeffrey Katzenberg comments that was edited out after he left?

Once again, you and I have a slight lack of communication here. I meant the FEATURE FILMS/SHORTS are unedited and uncensored -- for the most part.
Aladdin still has the alternative lyrics to
Arabian Nights, but that's the only edit that I know of from a Disney LD.

Ooh, I see. I have never heard of any editing on the films themselves. I just remembered that documentary because I realy noticed that.

Yep!
Those old LaserDiscs were really fun. I remember when I was little always loving to put them in the LD player. They were just so fun and like a big version of the DVD. They also didn't have to be re wond. What a releaf. I prefer Laserdisc to VHS. I also still have my BETA I player. And I still use it a lot! This post brings back a lot of fond memories.
