Strangest piece of Disney merchandise?

We all know the Disney company loves nothing better than pasting their beloved characters - from Mickey, Snow White and Pooh to Jack Sparrow, Woody and Lightning McQueen - on merchandise. Dolls, clothes, stationary, even breakfast cereal have images of timeless Disney characters from over the past 80 years pasted all over them. But what in your eyes would you consider amongst the strangest pieces of Disney merchandise?

To get the ball rolling, I'll throw out three particularly odd (and ultimately pointless) things I've ever come across, whether in person or online:

Disney Televisions:
Image

Yep, after years of being relegated to just the screen, Disney characters now take up the entire set. All because kids don't want to watch TV unless it resembles Cinderella's coach or has Pooh peeping over the top of it! I can't help but think that it would get distracting trying to focus on a screen when the actual frame is so flashy, nor can I not help think of the irony of watching something after the watershed on these sets.

Mickey Topiary:
I can't find a photo of this, but I think it's worth sharing. In Disneyland Paris last summer, I found a little "make your own topiary" set. It was probably nine inches high, and the objective was to grow a little hedge and then sculpt it into the standard Mickey head. Not only do I think it strange, but considering how many people fly to get to Disneyland Paris, I can't imagine it selling well due.

Disney Waffle Makers:
We've seen the Disney toasters, including the one with Cinderella where "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" plays as the bread pops up, and I considered including it. However, there are these contenders:

Yep, waffle makers! Gone are the days when waffles were a novelty and a tasty weekend treat even if covered in dust; nowadays, you need Disney characters all over them to give them the wow factor! Plus, for the Cinderella one, you can add pumpkin flavour so it really feels like you're eating the coach! ;)

So anyway, enough of me. Have you got any finds?

This would be absolutely pointless for me to own (the last thing I need is another MP3 player) but it's so effing cute!

The ears control the volume and track skipping. Maybe not the strangest piece of Disney merchandise I could have added, but it was the first to pop in my head. More info here, where it's made clear that this is more of a fashion accessory than anything else. :p

*EDIT*

Oh, I almost forgot! Several years back I picked up a Mickey Mouse cigarette case! And no, it wasn't some kind of knock-off that you can easily find online these days, it was from the old Disney Store in Chicago (back when it was still in the Watertower), and was part of a set of matching merchandise that included office supplies and accessories, all with the Mickey Mouse symbol embossed into black leather as a repeated pattern. I no longer have it and haven't been able to find any photos (it's too old, probably from the mid-late 90's), but it was rather classy-looking. My friends all used to gasp at the site of it, and joke that they didn't realize Disney endorsed smoking. :p

I won't be posting any photos of the Hannah Montana gummi candies, but whoever was in charge of them shouldn't have agreed to flesh-colored microphone shapes. :p

Oh, that reminds me of something from Asia that surfaced on London's Portobello Market (yes, along Portobello Road of Bedknobs and Broomsticks fame):

Wow, I think those themed stand-alone DVD players are awesome.

Well, okay, I wouldn't want those models, or really any character-related models (except maybe Mary Poppins or a TLM that celebrated something besides the princess aspect of the film), but I never knew they made DVD players besides the standard flat ones.

I wonder how well they play DVD's?

Ha, I used to have a Snoopy waffle iron as a kid, and I remember seeing Mickey ones around places like Sears. I didn't know they still made those, man. I might get the Mickey one or another Snoopy when I move out on my own.

:headshake:

And *this* is why I hate the Disney Corporation. I don't agree with (former Disney comics artist) Don Rosa often, but he was right when he called Disney "the evil empire".

I mean, an Ariel thermometer? "For rectal use"? For fucking real?!

Why? :? I'm familiar with his comics but I've never read an interview of him or learned about his life. What did he say that you don't agree with?

Yes...apparently thanks to the magic of Disney, you can literally put Ariel where the sun don't shine. :P

It's very off-topic, but okay: in the mid-1990's he was a very active member of the Disney Comics Mailing List (DCML) on the internet. He has said some very nasty stuff about Carl Barks, some of Barks' stories and his colleagues in the Disney comics business. He also has very strange opinions on the Disney Duck universe, such as Uncle Scrooge having died in 1967 and all that stuff. I'd go more deeply into this if it weren't so off-topic.

I just wanted to say I liked how Rosa referred to Disney the same way Reagan referred to the Soviet Union. :D

If only they produced Pirates of the Caribbean: The Flamethrower. Kids would love that one. 8)

Just thought I'd bring that blast from the past into this thread...and amazingly it really is Disney and not some mock up job...so Disney Marketing stupid stuff has been going on even before Electronics and Toasters
