Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland on 3D Blu-ray

*EDIT*

Just saw the trailer for 3D Blu-Ray combo packs on Toy Story 3 now. Turns out Alice in Wonderland IS coming to 3D Blu-ray soon. I'm still upset they couldn't have released it earlier in Jun, so I don't feel like I wasted my money on the normal copy when I get the 3D version, when I hopefully upgrade, but I guess it was to be expected.

Strange that Disney have decided to release this movie as a bundle in the US... In many parts of Europe the 3D version will soon be released.

Or they should've just waited a few more months to put the movie out on DVD. There was a slight controversy earlier this year about this.

They also advertised A Christmas Carol (course that's obvious), Bolt, and The Nightmare Before Christmas for 3D Blu-ray coming soon. :D

Anybody know if there is going to be a coupon for the 3D combo?

How do most of you on the board feel about 3D releases? Do you think the 3D home media market will really take off or is this just a fad?

I guess 3D is the next logical step following HD and standard Blu-ray, but it feels like we're moving really fast from one new technology to another. I just got my first HD tv about 2 months ago and won't have the Blu-ray player until Christmas!

At this point, it could go both ways. Most people dont feel the need to upgrade, but those who control what ads we see feel the need to show off and sell these new devices.

Precisely why I think the 3D television set will be a failure

Do you have a 3D TV or plan to get one?

I know I'm a little late in the game getting my HD TV, but that is mostly because I am frugal and really didn't get back into watching a lot of movies until this year. Once I started buying the Blu-ray/DVD combo packs, the HD TV and Blu-ray player seemed like the next logical step.

I think a lot of people can easily justify upgrading to an HD TV, but the 3D aspect seems kind of like a novelty right now. I've seen it demonstrated in the stores, and it just wasn't that intriguing to me. I've heard the same reactions from a few others as well, but of course, there are just as many that love it and have already upgraded, so I'm not judging in anyway.

I don't have one, nor do I plan on buying one. The first reason being that my family only just bought a HD television set two years ago and a Blu-Ray player about a year ago, so it's way too soon to upgrade to a new set and player.

My second reasoning is that while I think 3-D is an amazing experience on the big-screen, it's something that I feel doesn't quite translate to the small screen. It just loses that immersive experience, in my opinion. To be honest, I felt that immersive feeling I got from watching Up in 3-D at the local multiplex was transferred very well to the two-dimensional Blu-Ray. Not to mention the fact that the glasses are a tad costly, too.

I agree, plus, I think wearing the glasses for prolonged periods of time would be annoying. I don't know about you, but sometimes I just have the TV on in the background while I am cleaning or something, and I doubt I'd be walking around the house with the glasses on so that everything I did look at the screen I didn't see a big old mess (if I was watching something in 3D).

I think I've heard that they are working on a way to create the 3D effect without the glasses, but until then (and possibly not), I don't think it's something a vast amount of consumers are going to really grasp onto.

I'm gonna put this thread back on topic, since there are general 3D threads in the DVD section.

So does anyone know if there is a coupon for this release? I held off on buying this one, but if it comes with all formats, then why not.

It comes with a $10 rebate offer, so I doubt their's a coupon.

What do you have to do for the rebate? Buy another movie or just send in the proof of purchase?
