That's right Cameron and Fincher are working together as producers and directors for the upcoming new animated "Heavy Metal" movie which is also a reboot. This will be based more on the popular adult comic magazine than the 1981 animated cult classic which i adored for years since i was 12 in 93 when i watched it on TBS then bought it uncut and uncensored on VHS when i was 15 as it's one of my favorite movies.

Additional directors will be Guillermo Del Toro, Zack Snyder, Gore Verbinski, Jack Black and Rob Zombie with some others. This one will have 10 stories this time with different types of animation in each one such as 2D traditional, CGI, Clay Animation, Stop Motion, Flash and Japanese animation. They should hire Yoshiatka Kawajarri of Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Animatrix and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust fame or Katsuhiro otomo of Akira fame for an anime segment, Henry Selleck for a stop motion segment or even Will Vinton for a Claymation segment.

Maybe this could bring adult animation back in the mainstream like Waltz with Bashir, Beowulf and South Park The Movie did. I can't wait.

You consider Waltz with Bashir mainstream?

As I'm unfamiliar with the magazine or the movie, I don't really know what to think of it. Sounds like a project that's destined to fall apart at some point. Besides isn't Cameron going to be tied up on the Avatar sequels for like the next twenty years? Or is he more of a "producer" on this?

If your a fan of animation, check out the original Heavy Metal, it's a great animated cult classic and proves animation isn't for kids sometimes. It also predates anime and hentai in the US.

This reboot can reintroduce audiences to HM as the original is a cult movie you know, you know what a cult movie is right? it means something different that some mainstream audiences don't get or never seen. Afterall you can't get privy or easy access to since some remakes can reintroduce audiences to something they can't get easy or privy access too.

I love the original Heavy Metal movie. HM 2000 was okay but I liked having multiple stories like the magazine with the different animation and art styles. They have a great list of directors lined up but I hope they have some great artists lined up for this as well. I'm really looking forward to this!

I also really want to see this other Heavy Metal animated film:
