Blu-Ray releases for Shrek Forever After and The Whole Story Collection has been announced!:

"Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the Dreamworks Animation movie Shrek Forever After for Blu-ray release on December 7. On the same date, the studio will also release Shrek: The Whole Story, a gift set including all four Shrek movies.

Special features on Shrek Forever After include a "12 Days of Christmas" pop-up book, deleted scenes, interactive games, a preview of "Shrek the Musical" and an insider's look at the film.

For a limited time, both Shrek Forever After and Shrek: The Whole Story will also include a new holiday program, Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular, featuring all the characters from the franchise singing classic holiday songs with Shrek-ized lyrics, as well as the "Shrek's Yule Log" - a virtual fireplace with appearances by more than 25 Shrek characters."

Yeah, the whole story would be:
Shrek
Shrek 2
Shrek 3D
Shrek the Third
Shrek the Halls
Shrek the Final Chapter (or Shrek Goes Fourth)
Puss in Boots
And whatever new featurettes they decide to make.

Finally! I figured they'd have to make an announcement soon if it was going to be out by Christmas.

I skipped this movie in theatres. I just do not care if I see it (especially after how badly Shrek the Third sucked). The franchise should have ended with Shrek 2.

^I heard from many mouths, 4 is better than 3.

For the record, 4 is much better than 3. Perhaps not entirely necessary, but definitely a nice little film. A much better closer to the franchise than 3 would have been.

Part four is definitely much better than part three, and I think it's really too bad that three has spoiled many from wanting to see it. If anyone's curious and doesn't mind spoilers, I wrote an outline of the story in an another thread.

Like everyone has said already, Shrek 4 is really good. I would recommend renting it first, but it is a much better film than three. That's because four focuses on the story and character development rather than just the jokes and the references. In fact, I would say that this is the most emotional movie since maybe the first one. In the third movie you had these crucial moments of character development ruined by mean spirited and cynical jokes. Not with four. Specially near the end you have these wonderful scenes that actually give depth to Shrek and Fiona's relationship.

Which is why it bothered me that Movie Bob of the Escapist didn't fully review it, he pretty much ranted about how Shrek is stupid. I understand how Shrek 3 was so bad and since then the Shrek franchise has overstayed its welcome, but give Shrek 4 the credit it deserves. Don't base it on the god awful advertisements, but on its merits. Really, he even complains about how it uses the "It's a Wonderful Life" premise when it's different. Yeah you still have the not being born rule at play, but the circumstances are different. George Bailey wanted to die because he felt he was a nuisance to his family and friends. Shrek wanted a day to feel like a bachelor. Bailey had the chance of returning back, Shrek is going to be erased from existence.

Really, when a movie fan can make this analysis instead of a "professional critic" can't something is wrong...

But I am rambling, my apologies.

I was SO hoping they were gonna do a boxset of all the movies. I never saw the fourth one and I'm like the one person in the universe who legitimately enjoyed the third one and of course the first two are great, so a box set would be perfect!

The biggest problem I had with the 3rd one is how they handled the death of the King as a frog. I liked though when Donkey started singing on the boat Cat Stevens after Shrek found out he was going to be a father....


Anyway I do agree Shrek 4 might be the best one since the 1st one. Dreamworks worked on story rather than you wishing someone would give the ogre and the rest of the cast a Pepto Bismol

I assume you're referring to "Cat's in the Cradle," which was sung and written by Harry Chapin. Cat Stevens never sang the song.

A lot of people think that. You know what with his name being Cat and sounding like Harry Chapin. It's one of those miscredits that really took life in the file-sharing age.

Yarp. As far as its known, if Cat Stevens ever sang the song it was just in the shower.
