Return of Jafar in HD on ABC Family!

It's on right now. I don't think I've seen any Disney direct-to-video movie on TV for a long time or in HD for that matter, so this is a rare occasion.

The only direct-to-video Disney sequel I'd ever watch in said format...

If you have HD, that is.

Is it really "true" HD or just upscaled?
I must say I'm curious on the quality ...(I'm still wondering how the DTV sequels and the Disney Afternoon shows would look if one day, they would release them on Bluray)

It isn't on the quality of Aladdin's HD, but I think that's due to the animation skills of the studio who made it. It looks like the true HD version.

Btw, I looked through today's schedule on ABC Family. Seems like it's a Disney day:
Return of Jafar
Aladdin and the King of Thieves
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Cars (twice)

Well THAT is amazing then :) I would really love for someone to post a screenshot or something...
I would really love to (re)discover the Disney Afternoon shows in better quality than the overly compressed DVDs (and for which not all episodes have been released...) Even an upscale would be great, if there weren't the compression artefacts.

Aladdin and Snow White were trending on Twitter last night.

Always good.

I doubt that. They can't even finish putting the DAS on DVD, why would they waste their time on Blu Ray?

Further, even if they for some reason ever did, I really don't think they would put them in HD. The only good having these shows on Blu Ray would be is for the chance to get the whole show of any of them on like one or two discs. Which in itself would be cool.

Drat, I missed it. Wonder if any torrent sites will have it?

Oh, treanding means that the subject is a hot item on the site, and is being heavily tweeted by users of the site. Since Aladdin and Snow White were being heavily tweeted, that must mean that a good amount of the site's userbase must have been watching ABC Family yesterday.

See, the mistake you're making here is applying logic to Disney's method of releasing their films. One must not apply logic where logic does not exist. Heck, we could have Return of Jafar and blu-ray next year as a bonus feature if they actually release Aladdin as rumored.

I said "one day". We never know what can happen in 10 years. Maybe one or all of the Disney Afternoon series could become popular again. (isn't Tron coming back, for example, when it wasn't even a success to begin with?)

Also, the two Aladdin sequels were (AFAIK) produced by Disney TV animation, so if they can make them HD, it would be *technically* possible to do it for their TV series too. (of course, the problem is $$$, not technical...)

Disney also stopped the Gargoyles DVDs, long before they released the other Disney Afternoon shows - the "low" sales of Gargoyles didn't prevent them from releasing more. As the previous comment says, no real logic there.

They may show them on TV, just like "Return to Jafar", and if the channel is HD, what's preventing from giving the best quality?

And they may also release them digitally / online, on Itunes or on their own service. I remember seeing they have plans for that. In a few years all digital content will probably be available in HD (even older stuff)

There are lots of possibilities...
